#RockReport Varsity vs Brownsburg

Last Friday, the Bulldogs of Brownsburg came to Riverview Health Stadium and defeated the Rocks, 34-14. The loss drops the Rocks to 4-2 on the season (2-2 HCC).

This was a rough one from the opening kickoff. The Rock D was able to hold Brownsburg to a field goal on the opening drive, but they the Dogs blocked a punt and returned it for a touchdown. Just like that, they had a 10 point lead. The Shamrock offense struggled to get the team back into things, and a late Bulldog interception in the first half led to a 17-0 deficit at the break. Brownsburg would score twice more in the third to extend the lead to 31-0 before the Rocks recovered a fumble and showed some signs of life. The Rocks were able to punch in two scores late, but they game was pretty much in hand by that point.

Special mention should be given to Jackson Anderson, Amarion Ballard, and Dalen Blanding. These Rocks made significant contributions in preparing the team for the Friday contest. During the week, they show us what it means to be united, providing the best possible look for their fellow teammates.

The Rocks will look to build on some of their late game success and attempt to get back in the win column next week when they travel to Avon to take on the Orioles. Kickoff is scheduled for 7pm.

#Gameday Rocks vs Bulldogs (Homecoming)

Tonight, your Rocks will come home to face the Bulldogs of Brownsburg. The Bulldogs enter with a 3-2 record (2-1 HCC). In the conference, they've beaten Franklin Central and Fishers, while losing to Avon.

Brownsburg averages 26 points per game on 346 yards (195 air). They are led by QB Ben Easters (#10) who has thrown for nearly 1000 yards and 13 touchdowns in 5 games. He splits his focus pretty evenly between two favorite targets, Preston Terrell (#1; 376 yards and 5 TDs) and Luke Lacey (#14; 346 yards and 7 TDs). RB Donny Marcus chips in with solid ground support, averaging over 100 yards per game with a handful of touchdowns of his own.

The Bulldogs are bring a lot of collegiate-level talent into tonight's game. They will look to leverage their athleticism into success on both sides of the ball. The Rocks will need to present a united front tonight against a formidable foe to come out with a victory on Homecoming night.

No directions needed. Kickoff is set for 7pm.

#RockReport JV vs HSE

The Westfield Junior Varsity football team played their fifth game of the season on Saturday against the Royals from Fishers Indiana of Hamilton Southeastern.  The Rocks were reeling from a royal trouncing on Friday, but it was the JV Rocks that rolled on Saturday and turned the Royals to rubble with a 49-28 victory.

The Rocks JV offense was a well-oiled machine all morning.  The engine that kept that machine rolling were the joint players of the game, Sophomore quarterback Maximus Webster and Junior quarterback Nick Talley.  Both quarterbacks led touchdown drive after touchdown drive against the Royals defense.  The offense was able to function so well because of the consistent play of Sophomore lineman Leroy Dalen Blanding.  The fuel (or juice if you will) for the offense was supplied by sophomore wide receiver Jackson Wassestrom who accounted for multiple explosive plays and three touchdowns on the day.

The JV Rocks defense had a little trouble containing the high powered Royals offense at the beginning of the game, but deciphered the mystery as the game went on and were able to come up with multiple stops and give the ball back to their offense to expand their lead. The Rocks defense was built on the foundation that is sophomore defensive tackle Kyle Widmer.  Widmer was not only a disruptive force in the middle of the defense all game and earned the player of the game award, but he also earned the play of the game award by breaking through the Royals offensive line & tackling the running back on 4th and short to cause a turnover on downs.  The most consistent player of the game was Junior cornerback Kyle Pape.  Pape played the pass effectively all day and was very aggressive against the run.  Another big play for the Rocks came on special teams when Sophomore punter Maguire Graybill boomed the ball out of his own end zone and helped turn the field over for the Rocks defense.

The JV Rocks football team will look to keep their momentum going when they play Brownsburg High School on Saturday September 28st at 10 a.m away at Brownsburg Stadium.

#RockReport - Varsity at HSE

Last Friday, your Rocks traveled to Hamilton Southeastern to take on the Royals, falling 34-10. The loss is the first one on the season, dropping the Rocks to 4-1 (2-1 HCC).

The Rocks had about as good of a start as they could hope for, scoring on the first drive, and then picking off a pass on their first defensive series. The field goal unit converted, and the Rocks had a 10-0 lead to end the first. The Rock D yielded a Royal touchdown in the second, which led to the 10-7 score at the break. In the second half, however, it was all Royals, as they scored 27 unanswered points. The Shamrock offense was simply never able to get going, and the Rock D struggled in the second half.

Special mention should be given to McGwire Graybill, Ian Bruch, and Mario Chalmers. These Rocks made significant contributions in preparing the team for the Friday contest. During the week, they show us what it means to be united, providing the best possible look for their fellow teammates.

Next week, your Rocks will come home to face the Bulldogs of Brownsburg. Kickoff is scheduled for 7pm.

#Gameday Rocks at Hamilton Southeastern

Tonight, your Rocks will travel down to the southeast corner of Hamilton County to face the HSE Royals. The Royals come into the contest on a 3 game losing skid with a 1-3 record (0-2 HCC), having most recently dropped conference games to Avon and Fishers. Their lone victory came over Lawrence Central in week 1.

HSE averages 18.3 points per game on 329 yards per game (223 air). They are led by QB Andrew Hobson (#6) and his favorite target WR Deandre Rhodes (#86). Rhodes is averaging over 100 receiving yards per game, and at least one touchdown. Fellow WR Ben Boyson (#11) is also averaging around 50 yards per game, and RB Tylin Taylor (#4) leads the ground attack with around 50 yards per game as well.

The Rocks will need to bend but not break tonight, as the Royals can move the football. Look for the vertical playmaking ability of HSE to play a big role in this game. If the Rocks can limit the downfield looks, the Royals may struggle to score. HSE will also have to stop a Shamrock offense that has been clicking in the previous few weeks. Depending on how well each defense plays, this could turn into a shootout, or be a battle of wills. Either way, it should be a good game.

Need directions? We've got you covered below. Kickoff is set for 7pm.

#RockReport Freshmen vs Noblesville

Renewing an annual cross-county rivalry, the freshman Rocks of Westfield hosted the Noblesville Millers on a beautiful Saturday morning with unparalleled weather for football. The Rocks exhibited superior toughness and physicality as they beat their rivals to the east by a score of 29-0 -- the defense’s second shutout in as many games.

The Rocks’ defensive front played aggressively vs. the Miller run and pressured their passing attempts constantly. Player of the game Seth Nanna impressed with multiple tackles for loss. The newcomer to the Rocks program hit his stride in this game, displaying the force he can exert from his position on the defensive line. Along with Nanna, inside linebacker Will Byers had a breakout game, earning Mr. Consistency honors for his play. Big plays by the defense included two interceptions -- one by Reece Weyer to end the half and one by Eli Carter returned for a touchdown.

Offensively, the Rocks were led by running back Jalen Herron. Herron found the Millers’ edge multiple times and sped to the end zone for two touchdowns. Bucking multiple tacklers, Herron combined brute force with his catlike speed. For his overall dependability performance as a teammate, practice player, and game player, wide receiver Chase Foreman won Mr. Consistency honors. The big play of the game came on a deep pass from quarterback Collin Lindsey to Eli Carter. The subsequent play was a touchdown.

On special teams, Charlie Dager won player of the game honors. Dager found himself in on every tackle for the kickoff squad. Pairing with Dager for Mr. Consistency is the kicker Grant Harlowe, whose kickoffs pinned the Miller offense back to start in their own red zone. The big play of the game was Eli Carter’s punt return to get the offense into scoring position.

The Rocks return to action on Monday, September 23rd as they head to Hamilton Southeastern for a Hoosier Crossroads Conference showdown. Kickoff is at 6:00 p.m.

#RockReport JV at Noblesville

The Westfield Junior Varsity football team played their fourth game of the season on Saturday against the Millers from the east. This match-up was a physical battle of wills from the first kick-off until the final whistle blew. The JV Rocks were able to grid  away with the victory, 10-7.

Rocks JV offense experienced many self-inflicted stops on the day with penalties. These penalties stopped many drives dead in their tracks despite the effort of the Rocks offensive player of the game, sophomore wide receiver Amarion Ballard. Ballard supplied several sparks for the offense with his ability to catch & run to gain extra yards. Junior wide receiver Adam Garrettson & freshman running back Dillon Thieneman were consistent contributors for the Rocks, keeping the ball moving with many clutch catches. At the end of the 4th quarter, the Rocks found themselves down by 4 points (7-3) with 2+ minutes left in the game and 70 yards to traverse. After many spectacular plays & several setbacks, the Rocks junior quarterback Nick Talley was able to find sophomore wide receiver Jackson Wasserstrom for the game winning touchdown with under a minute to play.

The JV Rocks defense played physical throughout the entire game. The Rocks D was able to shut the Miller offense down drive after drive. The performances of the game were bookended by a goal line stand to start the game and a red zone stop to end the game and get the ball back to the offense for the game winning score. The player of the game was freshman cornerback Dillon Thieneman who had 2 interceptions on the game (1 as time expired to seal the victory). The book ends for the consistent play for the Rocks defense were the book ends on the defensive line, junior defensive ends Seth Martin & Ayden Hartman had outstanding games. The play of the game came after an interception by the Rocks offense, with the team down by 4 points and the Millers in Rocks territory. The defense rose up, stayed united, and got the ball back for the offense.

The JV Rocks football team will look to keep their momentum going when they play Hamilton Southeastern High School on Saturday September 21st at 10 a.m at home.

#RockReport Varsity vs Noblesville

Last Friday, your Rocks hosted the Noblesville Millers, earning a 34-14 win. The victory brings the Rocks to 4-0 on the year, and secures the Midland Rail trophy for this season.

The Shamrock Offense was led by Camden Simons. Aidan Parker added consistent play down in the trenches. One big play came on an RB screen to Micah Hauser, with Cole Grady, Jacob Netral, and Aidan Parker all getting in on the action with key blocks. A second big play came when Simons hooked up with Levi Kaster for a touchdown on a TE throwback.

The Rock D was led by Micah Hauser, while Jack Pfeiffer and Seth Martin tacked on consistent play. The big play for the D was when Hauser stepped in front of a slant in the endzone for a touchdown saving interception.

Shamrock Special Teams was led by Carson Voorhis. Lyle Beam added consistent play, and the big play in this phase goes to Reid Schepers.

Special mention should be given to Jonathan Hernandez, Blaine Riley, Clay Frederick, and Alex Wolfe. These Rocks made significant contributions in preparing the team for the Friday contest. During the week, they show us what it means to be united, providing the best possible look for their fellow teammates.

Next week, your Rocks will travel to Hamilton Southeastern to take on the Royals. Kickoff is scheduled for 7pm.

#Gameday Varsity vs Noblesville

Tonight, your Rocks will host the Millers from Noblesville. This is the last of our two week rivalry series of games, with the Midland Rail Trophy on the line. Noblesville comes into tonight's game with an 0-3 record, having lost to Cathedral, Carmel, and Fishers. Since 2004, Westfield holds the edge in the rivalry with a 9-7 record against the Millers.

Noblesville has struggled to score the football, averaging only 7 points per game on 74 yards per game (50 ground). They run an option-styled offense that showcases a variety of runners. Senior Elijah Butler (#21) currently leads the team with 32 rushing attempts, notching 35 yards and a touchdown. The entire offense has only completed 6 passes for 72 yards and 1 touchdown across all three games.

Don't let the stats fool you, though, this rivalry is typically a grind-it-out game that may come down to the wire. Expect the Millers to slow things down, hoping to control time of possession and keeping the Shamrock offense off the field. The Rock D will need to capitalize on any opportunities to gain an extra possession for the O, while staying disciplined on the run and play-action game.

It's supposed to rain earlier this evening, so hopefully we will see a drop in temperature and humidity by the time kickoff rolls around. Still, keep your eye on the weather as it could end up being a wet one. No directions needed today. Hope to see you at Riverview Stadium. Kickoff is set for 7pm.

#RockReport JV vs Zionsville

The Westfield Junior Varsity football team played their third game of the season on Saturday against the Eagles of Zionsville.  The JV offense struggled early but was able to get some explosive plays and run away with the victory for the Rocks, 33-14

Rocks JV offense sputtered a bit early on in the game but were able to muster two field goals on the first two drives.  The Rocks offense was able to decipher the Eagle defense by utilizing sophomore receiver Jackson Wasserstrom and his explosive play making capability.  Jackson finished the game with 4 touchdowns & multiple acrobatic catches on the sideline.  Junior quarterback Nick Talley was able to engineer multiple drives to give the Rocks the lead by halftime.  The Rocks would not relinquish the lead from that point forward.

The JV Rocks defense lived by the motto, “bend but don’t break”.  The Rocks allowed multiple explosive plays to the Eagles offense, but 3 times in the first half fortified their defenses on the goal line and deny the Eagles entry into pay dirt.  The Rocks also forced multiple takeaways during the game.  Sophomore linebacker Evan Canon lead the charge with an interception early in the first half.  Junior cornerback Kyle Pape, sophomore cornerback Thaddeus O’Neill, and freshman cornerback Dillon Thieneman added interceptions later in the game for the Rocks.  Sophomore defensive tackle Kyle Widmer was the keystone of the defense and earned the defensive player of the game award with his dominante play in the middle of the defense.

The JV Rocks football team will look to keep their momentum going when they play noblesville High School on Saturday September 14th at 10 a.m at Beaver Stadium in noblesville Indiana.

#RockReport Freshmen at Zionsville

The freshman Rocks of Westfield took on HCC rival Zionsville in a game that really proved the mettle of the young Rocks. On the shoulders of a defense that allowed zero first downs, the Rocks came away with a 21-0 victory.

The defense held staunch from the start of the game until the final whistle. The Eagles of Zionsville never gained a first down through the ground, the air, or through a penalty. Headlining the defense was the front seven, anchored by defensive tackle Kaden Rounds. For Rounds’s steadfastness in the trenches, he earned player of the game honors, coupled with safety Eli Carter, who had a big interception in the first half. The single most dominant play of the game came when safety Brennan Hacker completely annihilated the opposing ball carrier with a hammer hit.

Offensively, the Rocks kept grinding away with big drives. Their scores came on two Collin Lindsey touchdown passes and a Jalen Herron rush. QB Lindsey earned player of the game recognition for his passing, running, and overall leadership. Herron earned Mr. Consistency honors for the spark and speed he brought to the offense. The big play of the game occurred on the Rocks’ second touchdown of the game -- a Lindsey lob to TE Austin Knott while Lindsey was being wrestled to the ground by a Zionsville tackler.

On special teams, Austin Knott shined for his effort on kickoff and as a long snapper. He earns his first player of the game honors with this. Tyler Dikos -- a contributor on every single special team -- earns Mr. Consistency. For his pressure of a Zionsville punt in their own end zone, linebacker Charlie Dager earns the Big Play Award.

The Rocks will be returning home on Saturday, September 14th, as they take on heated cross-county rival Noblesville. Kickoff is at 10:00 a.m.

#RockReport Varsity at Zionsville

On Friday, your Rocks traveled over to Zionsville to face the Eagles, earning a 51-24 victory. The win takes the Rocks to 3-0 on the season, and 1-0 in conference play. Zionsville falls to 2-1 (0-1 HCC).

On offense, the Shamrocks were led by OL Jacob Netral, anchored by the consistent play of the entire offensive line. When you score on the ground with five different runners, it's a good sign that the line is playing it's heart out. The big play for the offense was a stellar catch by WR Mason Piening to give the Rocks a key first down.

The Rock D was led by DL Owen Ogle, and backed by CB Grant Joyce. They held the Eagles to only one score in each of the four quarters, which proved plenty with all of the scoring that the offense accomplished. Shamrock Special Teams were led by Trevor Lickfeldt along with the consistent play of Lyle Beam. Nailing a field goal right before halftime was big for the FG unit and the team as a whole.

Special mention should be given to Jonathan Hernandez, Evan Cannon, and Jonathon Frey. These Rocks made significant contributions in preparing the team for the Friday contest. During the week, they show us what it means to be united, providing the best possible look for their fellow teammates.

Next Friday, your Rocks will host the Noblesville Millers, as the rivalry portion of the schedule continues. Kickoff for the Midland Rail Rivalry game is scheduled for 7pm.

#GameDay Varsity at Zionsville

Tonight, your Rocks will make the short trip over to neighboring Zionsville for the Shining Star Rivalry face-off against the Eagles. This will be a battle of unbeaten teams, as Zionsville comes in with a 2-0 record to match the Rocks. The Eagles defeated Pike in week 1, 17-7, and Lebanon in week 2, 47-33.

Zionsville has posted 32 points per game. In last week's win over Lebanon, they rumbled for 276 yards with 188 of those coming on the ground. There were led by sophomore RB Colin Price (#33), who was responsible for 170 of those yards and a touchdown. Senior QB Cole Wiseman (#3) split his targets pretty evenly between senior WR Brody Whitesell (#2; 3/37/0) and sophomore WR Trey Firestone (#19; 5/44/0).

The Rocks will need to stop the run in this one. Coming off Eli Patchett's (#33) big game last week, look for the Eagles to try to win the line of scrimmage as well. This could turn into a battle of wills in the trenches, or come down to who can air it out best. Either way, it should be a great rivalry game with gorgeous football weather on tap for tonight.

Need directions? We've got you covered below. Kickoff is set for 7pm.

#RockReport Freshmen at Decatur Central

For week two of the 2019 season, the freshman Rocks of Westfield traveled to Indianapolis’s southwest side to take on the Decatur Central Hawks. The Rocks exhibited great toughness and determination en route to a 38-8 victory.

All three phases of the Rocks’ game shined; however, the defense highlighted the day with seven takeaways from the Hawks. The defining play of the game was a pick-six interception by linebacker Jayden Bernavil as he exhibited great hustle to a flying pass, sprinting his way over 30 yards to get to the end zone. The entire defensive line was a rock wall, rarely letting a pass escape the pocket or a run go past the line of scrimmage. Defensive end Brent Stone stood out the most, earning player of the game honors. Mr. Consistency was also a defensive lineman -- tackle Kaden Rounds.

On offense, the Rocks exhibited consistency in their drives, ending most of them with touchdowns. The player of the game was first year wide receiver Hunter Harris. With two touchdowns and a diving catch to get to the two-yard line, Harris found openings in the Hawks’ defense throughout the game. As the offense’s field general, quarterback Collin Lindsey wins Mr. Consistency for the second week in a row. Lindsey aggressively ran the ball, passed for multiple completions, including three touchdown passes, and led his team both on and off the field throughout the game. Offensive tackle Alex Ashley also earns Mr. Consistency honors as he paved the way for the Rocks’ run game and protected the pass against the tough Decatur Blitz. The play of the game was quarterback Cole Ballard’s pass to a diving Hunter Harris in the third quarter, putting the Rocks back onto the Hawk goal line.

In the kicking game, Jalen Herron stood out for his physicality, earning Mr. Consistency honors. Reece Weyer earned the play of the game for his punt return down to the five yard line.

The Rocks return to action vs. HCC rival Zionsville in an away game on Saturday, September 7th. Go Rocks!

#RockReport JV vs Decatur Central

The Westfield Junior Varsity football team played their second game of the season on Saturday against the Hawks of Decatur Central.  The JV defense struggled early but was able to get some key stops and seal the victory for the Rocks, 49-30.

The Rocks offense was on fire the whole day.  Quarterback Maximus Webster was the most consistent player of the game.  Webster dropped dimes all over the field & violently ran the ball off the edge.  Junior center Dakota Arvin was the offensive player of the game.  Arvin was a road grader opening holes for the running backs all day.  Wide receiver Ian Bruch had the big play of the game catching a quick slant, making the safety miss, and running the ball for a long touchdown.

The Rocks defense started strong stopping the Hawks offense early.  Decatur Central’s offense started a string of explosive plays hitting multiple deep passes for touchdowns.  The defensive coordinator for the Rocks, Coach Comer, made some brilliant adjustments resulting in the big play of the game when Junior Seth Poriah pressured the quarterback into throwing Junior safety Jonathan Frey an interception.  Sophomore defensive tackle Kyle Widmer clogged up the middle of the defense to earn the Mr. Consistency award.  The players of the game were the inside linebackers: Magwire Graybill, Gabe Arvin, Blaine Riley, & Jackson Anderson.

The JV Rocks football team will look to keep their momentum going when they play Zionsville High School on Saturday September 7th at 10 a.m at home.

#RockReport Varsity at Decatur Central

Last Friday, your Rocks traveled down to Decatur Central High School to take on the Hawks, earning a 36-14 victory. The win takes the Rocks to 2-0 for the season.

The Shamrock offense was led by RB Eli Patchett, who notched two TDs on the ground. TE Levi Kaster added consistent play, while the big play goes to QB Cam Simon's touchdown pass to WR Dane Wheeler. The Rock D pitched a shutout in the first half, coming up with a couple of interceptions. LB Eli Patchett again led the way on the defensive side, turning in a fantastic complete game performance. LB Trevor Lickfeldt tacked on consistency, while the big play was the response to sudden change by Lickfeldt, Patchett, and LB Jack Pfeiffer. The Special Teams were led by return-man Micah Hauser, and steadied with the consistent kicking of Sean Sullivan. Big play in this phase goes to Carson Voorhis.

Special mention should be given to Magwire Graybill, Dalen Blanding, Luke Lewis, and Eric Jimenez. These Rocks made significant contributions in preparing the team for the Friday contest. During the week, they show us what it means to be united, providing the best possible look for their fellow teammates.

The Rocks return to action next Friday when they'll open HCC play against the Zionsville Eagles. That game will be at Zionsville, with the kickoff scheduled for 7pm.
