Last Friday, your Rocks traveled to Avon to face the undefeated, #1 in the state, Orioles. Unfortunately, they let the birds escape with a close 27-24 victory. The loss drops the Rocks to 4-3 on the season (2-3 HCC).
Both teams traded blows early in this one, with the Rocks up 10-7 in the first. Avon finished the half strong with two unanswered scores, going in 20-10 at the break. The two teams traded blows once again in the third, and then the Rocks scored early in the fourth to make it 24-27 Avon. From there, both defenses clamped down, and the Orioles were able to run out the clock on the Rocks attempted upset. Still, it was a strong showing for a Rocks team in the midst of a 3 game skid, taking the top team in the state down to the wire.
Special mention should be given to Jonathon Frey, Dalen Blanding, Adam Garretson, and Ian Watson. These Rocks made significant contributions in preparing the team for the Friday contest. During the week, they show us what it means to be united, providing the best possible look for their fellow teammates.
The Rocks will return to action next week against the Fishers Tigers. Kickoff is scheduled for 7pm at Riverview Health Stadium.
