#RockReport JV vs Avon

The Westfield Junior Varsity football team played their seventh game of the season on Saturday against the Angry Birds from Avon.  The JV Rocks had a dominant performance in all three phases of the game.  The Rocks never trailed on the day and finished with a 35-14 victory.

The Rocks JV offense had very little trouble moving the ball up and down the field, but several times penalties stalled drives which resulted in no points on several occasions.  The most consistent part of the Rocks offense was sophomore quarterback Maximus Webster who led several scoring drives and finished with a rushing touchdown and a passing touchdown on the day.  The offensive player of the game is converted linebacker to running back, sophomore Evan Cannon.  Cannon was thrust into the role of lead rusher when an injury happened and took full advantage of his opportunity.  The big play for the offense was near the end of the second quarter when the Rocks found themselves tied 14-14.  Junior Quarterback Nick Talley found sophomore wide receiver Jackson Wassestrom for a long touchdown pass to give the Rocks all the lead they would need on the day.  Wassestrom finished the day with 2 touchdowns receiving.

The JV Rocks defense an outstanding day stopping the running attack of the Orioles.  The starting linebacking core of sophomore Jackson Anderson and juniors Gabe Arvin, Jonathan Hernandez, and Blaine Riley earned players of the game awards.  Sophomore defensive lineman Kyle Widmer and junior defensive linemen Ayden Hartman, Seth Poriah, and Seth Martin were the most consistent players on the defense.  These first two levels of dominance to the defense allowed the big play to come when junior safety Joey Wolfe intercepted the ball for the first turnover of the game.  Sophomores Thadeus O’Neill, Alex Wolf, and Maguire Graybill won special teams awards on the day for their outstanding contribution as well.

The JV Rocks football team will look to keep their momentum going when they play Fishers High School on Saturday October 12th at 10 a.m away at Fishers High School.
