Varsity Football completed their first step on the tournament run, defeating the Harrison Raiders 42-14 on Friday night.
Offensively, the Shamrocks jumped out early, building a 42-7 lead by halftime. Devin Reece had a solid night and led the O alongside the consistent running of Elvin Caldwell. Nick Henderson snagged the first touchdown reception that led to many more for the Shamrocks.
The Rock Defense stymied the Raiders, holding them to a lone score each half. Matt Crupi played well, with the consistent play of Dan Liebbe in front. Luke Peters expended great effort to chase down a free-running Raider, refusing to give Harrison any easy points. The younger defense also had a solid 4th down stop in the second half, proving that the stout Rock defense permeates all levels of our program.
Shamrock Special Teams executed well, keeping the edge in this phase of the game. Cameron Harrison shone and Jay Simons added a solid consistency for the unit. Gavin Cross’s onside kick recovery was instrumental in deflating any thoughts of a Raider comeback.
Special mention should be given to Josh Tuffnell, Caleb Sanburn, and Noah Smith. These Rocks made significant contributions in preparing the team for the Friday contest. They resolved to continue playing throughout the week, providing the best possible look for their fellow teammates.
Resolve to support Rocks Football next Fridays, when Westfield will face the McCutcheon Mavericks for the Sectional 11 Title. Kickoff is at 7:00pm.
