Varsity Football completed their second step on the tournament run, defeating the McCutcheon Mavericks 45-21 on Friday night.
Offensively, the Shamrocks jumped out early again, burying McCutcheon 31-0 by halftime. Nick Ferrer led the explosive offense, racking up 160 yards to Nick Henderson alone. Henderson had a couple of pretty catches deep across the middle that ended in scores for the Rocks. Zane Burtron led a consistent offensive line that both protected Ferrer and enabled an 11 yards per carry average for Elvin Caldwell.
The Rock Defense was stingy for another week, shutting out the Mavericks early and only allowing late points. Matt Crupi had a stellar night, with Luke Peters backing him. Peters’s fumble recovery was huge, netting an extra possession for the Rocks to score.
Shamrock Special Teams contributed to the scoring this week when Josh Beer blocked a punt that was recovered by Cameron Harrison in the end zone. Mitch Turley added a solid night that helped the Rocks lock down the Mavericks in this phase.
Special mention should be given to Sam Trompen, Jordan Grimes, and Jamarcus Davis. These Rocks made significant contributions in preparing the team for the Friday contest. They kept the focus on beating McCutcheon throughout the week, providing the best possible look for their fellow teammates.
Resolve to support Rocks Football next Friday, when Westfield will travel to Fort Wayne Snider for the Regional title game. Kickoff is at 7:30pm.
