Varsity Football completed their third step on the tournament run, defeating the Fort Wayne Snider Panthers 36-7 Friday night.
Offensively, the Shamrocks were didn’t need to resort to a punt until very late in the game. They built a 36 point lead behind the blocking of Anthoney Daugherty and the consistent hands of Ben Lotfalian. Milo Beam’s big 3rd down conversion catch kept one of the many scoring drives going, providing just one of many highlights on the night.
The Rock Defense kept the Panthers from scoring until there were just over 6 minutes left in the game. Mitch Turley led the impressive display, assisted by the consistent play of Dan Liebbe and Jay Simons. The D showed extreme mental toughness when, after a Turner Edwards 100 yard interception return was negated by penalty, they held Snider out of the end zone, denying them what seemed to be assured points.
Shamrock Special Teams had a few highlights of their own, led by Nick Dowd. Dowd’s 2-point conversion pass to Nick Krieg on a busted extra point attempt was a stellar display of toughness. Max and Will McCool contributed to the consistency in this phase of the game as well.
Special mention should be given to Josh Hayward, Ryan Rubicz, and Jared Bayha. These Rocks made significant contributions in preparing the team for the Friday contest. They made every second count throughout the week, providing the best possible look for their fellow teammates.
Resolve to support Rocks Football next Friday, when Westfield will host the Concord Minutemen for the Semi-State title. Kickoff is at 7:30pm.
