The Westfield Junior Varsity football team played their fifth game of the season on Saturday September 15th at the home of the Royals of Hamilton Southeastern. The JV Rocks were able to improve their season record to 5-0 with a 48-26 victory over their out matched opponent.
The JV Rocks defense started the day with a few quick 3 and outs. The defense experienced some difficulty getting off the field on 4th down, giving up 2 scores in 4th down situations, but for the majority of the day sophomore linebacker Kyle Byers lead the team and sophomore defensive end Ayden Hartman added consistent effort for the team. Sophomore cornerback Christiaan Huisden added a much needed interception for the Rocks to help the team increase their lead. The Rocks special teams also added a blocked punt to the turnover trend. Sophomores Sean Sullivan and Joey Wolfe were excellent on special teams all day. Sophomore Seth Martin showed great effort in recovering an onside kick to keep the ball out of the hands of the Royals at the end of the game and ensure a Rocks victory.
The Rocks offense was explosive again thanks to the broken tackles and huge plays made by sophomore wide receiver Mason Piening. The offensive line was very stout and consistently opening holes for hard running junior running back Trevor Lickfeldt. Sophomore tight end Reid Scheppers gave the Rocks offense life on multiple occasions converting huge plays on a bootleg pass and passes over the middle. This is the second 40+ point game for sophomore quarterback Nick Talley and the rest of the JV Rocks offense.
The JV Rocks football team will look to keep their momentum going when they play Brownsburg High School on Saturday September 22nd at 10 a.m. The game will be at home this week.
