The Rocks defense started the game off with a 3 and out and interception by sophomore safety David Frey. Frey also contributed a forced fumble and quarterback sack. The shining moment for the defense came late in the fourth quarter, the game was tied, and the offense had just turned the ball over deep in their own territory. The Rocks defense was called upon to rise up, stand firm, and preserve the possibility of a Rocks victory. With the help of a quarterback sack by sophomore defensive end Aydan Hartman and a pass break up in the endzone by sophomore safety Jonathan Frey, the Rocks were able to stop the bleeding and give the ball back to the offense for the final drive of the game.
The JV offense was explosive on the day. Sophomore wide receiver Carson Voorhis contributed 3 long touchdown receptions from sophomore quarterback Nick Talley. Junior offensive lineman Alex Juarez held firm on the line protecting Talley as he connected with Voorhis. The play of the game came on the last drive, a 3rd down conversion between Talley and sophomore receiver Ayden Franzen to keep the drive alive. Voorhis’s last touchdown came on a 3rd down play with only seconds to spare. He caught the ball at the 5 yard line and dove into the endzone giving the Rocks a 26-20 win.
The JV Rocks football team will look to keep their momentum going when they play at Zionsville Community High School on Saturday September 1st at 10 a.m.
