The Westfield Junior Varsity football team played their first game of the season on Saturday against the Raiders of Lafayette Harrison. The JV Rocks started the game on fire and dominated the whole day.
The Rocks defense started out strong by forcing consecutive 3 and outs for the entire first quarter. The JV Defensive Line as a unit earned players of the game honors. The DLine recorded multiple tackles for loss and were gluttonous with the tackles not allowing other units in on the action. Sophomore defensive lineman Seth Martin earned an individual award for his consistently excellent effort. The big play of the game came as the Raiders were driving into Rocks territory. The Rocks defense faced a surging Raider offense on a 4th down with less than 1 yard to go. The Rocks stepped up and stuffed the Raiders bruiser of a back and returned the ball to the Rocks offense to run out the clock.
The JV offense was punishing behind the thundering feet of sophomore running back Jack “Diesel” Pfeiffer and his ability to punch the ball into the end zone 4 separate times. Sophomore quarterback Nick Talley added a score when he connected with sophomore receiver Mason Piening for a 20 yard score. The Rocks O-Line dominated all day opening huge running lanes for the backs. Sophomore long snapper Lyle Beam along with punter/kicker Sean Sullivan won special teams honors for their outstanding play.
The JV Rocks football team will look to keep their momentum going when they play Decatur Central High School on Saturday August 25th at 10 a.m away.
