#RockReport - JV and Freshmen

A little late this week, but here's the recap of Monday's action...

JV

The Rocks played a game of two opposing halves. In the first half, very little went right for the Rocks, but in the second they were dominant due to their attitude and effort. The Rocks came up short, 30-42, but played well in the second half.

Offensively, the Rocks moved the ball in the first half but mistakes cost them points. They were only able to score 3 points in the first half and found themselves in a 28-3 halftime hole. In the second half, the Rocks made huge plays offensively. The O-Line, led by Zachary Krieg and Jordan Long, played much more physical in the second half. The Line was able to open holes the second half for Jordan Grimes on two long, hard-fought runs for the rocks first touchdowns of the game. Brandon Karsnick also scored on a long run to bring the rocks closer to the Dogs. The McCool brothers hooked up for a trick play touchdown also, Max to Will, to bring the Rocks within 5 points. Unfortunately they would not get closer.

The defense also did not show up for the first half of this game and spotted the Dogs 28 points, but the defense played Rocks-style football in the second half. The Rocks caused 3 turnovers in the second half. Michael Patterson and Chris Davis caused a fumble each. Jacob Pence recovered one fumble and Gavin Cross recovered two, to give the offense multiple chances to make the game closer. Stan Mattingly played very physical and earned defensive player of the game with his second half dominance.

Will Harrison was perfect on his field goals all night. He also kicked a 30 yard field goal in the first half for the only score of that half. Along with those feats, he also perfectly placed an onside kick so that the rocks could recover and score in the second half.

Freshmen

The freshmen football team won a very close game on Monday night, 12-7. They were battling the Brownsburg Bulldogs. The offense drove down through the air midway through the second quarter. On the 5 yard line Andy Sweet made a nice run for the touchdown. The extra point was missed. The Rocks took the lead going into halftime 6-0. After halftime the game kept going back and forth. Brownsburg finally scored and took the lead after their extra point 7-6. The offense marched back down the field and then stalled in the red zone. The defense made 3 excellent stops to force a 20 yard punt. The offense took over with the ball on the 30 yard line and with 3 minutes left. After several holding penalties they were looking at 3rd and 27. Andy Sweet hit Tanner Nichols for 17 yards to bring up 4th and 10 with just over a minute to go. Then Sweet found Caleb Sanburn for a 25 yard gain down to the 5 yard line. The very next play Sanburn ran the ball in for the lead. The defense led by Josh Tuffnell and Brian Skelton stopped them on 4 straight plays to win the game for the rocks. The defense kept the powerful running Bulldogs to under 100 yards for the game. The Shamrocks improved their record to 3-1 and face the Zionsville Eagles on Monday, September 23rd at 6 PM here at home.
