Varsity Football wrecked the Royal Homecoming Friday night, posting a decisive 38-18 victory over Hamilton Southeastern.
Offensively, the Shamrocks demolished the Royal defense, scoring nearly every time they got the ball. Frank Grimes scored in the air and on the ground, running behind a line anchored by Zane Burtron. Ben Lotfalian snagged a number of key catches, keeping drives alive and greatly assisting the point-generating efforts.
The Rock Defense buckled down after a bumpy start and generated three huge turnovers that allowed Westfield to pull away. Adam Horkay had one of the big turnovers, and locked the Royal receivers down. The always solid Luke Peters and Mitch Turley kept the Royals walled up, and a big interception by Josh Beer turned the tide after the half, breaking the game open for the Rocks.
Shamrock Special Teams took care of business as well, securing the victory with several key plays throughout the game. Jacob Robinson led the way and the consistent play of Jay Simons buoyed play in this phase. The big play of the night goes to the punt team for their fourth down conversion.
Special mention should be given to Gavin Cross, Zach Krieg, Sam Tompen, Noah Smith, and Zach Rader. These Rocks made significant contributions in preparing the team for the Friday contest. They elevated their play throughout the week, providing the best possible look for their fellow teammates.
Resolve to support Rocks Football next Friday, when Westfield will host the McCutcheon Mavericks for Homecoming. Kickoff is at 7:00pm.
