Varsity Football wrecked the Royal Homecoming Friday night, posting a decisive 38-18 victory over Hamilton Southeastern.
Offensively, the Shamrocks demolished the Royal defense, scoring nearly every time they got the ball. Frank Grimes scored in the air and on the ground, running behind a line anchored by Zane Burtron. Ben Lotfalian snagged a number of key catches, keeping drives alive and greatly assisting the point-generating efforts.
The Rock Defense buckled down after a bumpy start and generated three huge turnovers that allowed Westfield to pull away. Adam Horkay had one of the big turnovers, and locked the Royal receivers down. The always solid Luke Peters and Mitch Turley kept the Royals walled up, and a big interception by Josh Beer turned the tide after the half, breaking the game open for the Rocks.
Shamrock Special Teams took care of business as well, securing the victory with several key plays throughout the game. Jacob Robinson led the way and the consistent play of Jay Simons buoyed play in this phase. The big play of the night goes to the punt team for their fourth down conversion.
Special mention should be given to Gavin Cross, Zach Krieg, Sam Tompen, Noah Smith, and Zach Rader. These Rocks made significant contributions in preparing the team for the Friday contest. They elevated their play throughout the week, providing the best possible look for their fellow teammates.
Resolve to support Rocks Football next Friday, when Westfield will host the McCutcheon Mavericks for Homecoming. Kickoff is at 7:00pm.

Team of the Week!
This is just a quick announcement to pass along the link to the article about the Rocks on the Hoosier Authority website. Thanks to votes from everyone in our community, we came out ahead by a scant 50 and earned "team of the week" honors. There is a nice little write up about the team. Check it out!
It's a great day to be a Shamrock.

The Junior Varsity Westfield High School football team beat the Junior Varsity Zionsville High School football team on Monday September 23, 2013. The score was Westfield Junior Varsity football 22 points and Zionsville Junior Varsity football 7 points.
The WHS Junior Varsity offensive unit dominated the game with long drives that went the length of the field and ate up clock. The first drive by the WHS Junior Varsity football offense took 8 min of the 10 minute first quarter. Nick Dowd, a WHS Junior Varsity football player, capped off this first drive by the WHS Junior Varsity football offense with an incredible 46-yard field goal. Dowd also kicked a 24-yard field goal for the WHS Junior Varsity football team. The Rocks Junior Varsity football offense scored later in the second quarter with a pass from Sam Trompen to Max McCool, both WHS Junior Varsity football players, for an 8-yard touchdown. Trompen scored in the second half for the WHS Junior Varsity football offense on a 2-yard run with a lead block from fellow WHS Junior Varsity football player Julian Lytle.
The WHS Junior Varsity defense had a great showing against the Zionsville Junior Varsity offense. Freshmen
The Freshmen football team dominated the Zionsville Eagles on Monday, September 23rd 35-14. Zionsville drove down and scored but missed their extra point Caleb Sanburn and Jared Bayha led the rushing attack driving down the field. But Andy Sweet scored on a 7 yard run with Will Harrison kicking the extra point to take the lead 7-6. An interception by Jackson Garrett set up the offense with great field position. The offense then came right back and scored on an Andy Sweet 24 yard run. The defense then had some miscommunication and let Zionsville score to even up the score 14-14. With a late interception in the first half from the Freshmen offense. The defense took the field determined to get the ball back. After a tipped ball Josh Tuffnell jumped up and snatched the ball out of the air. He was not satisfied with just having the ball he also wanted a touchdown. He went rumbling, bumbling and stumbling down the sideline and into the end zone to give the Freshmen football team the lead going into half 20-14. Miles Clinckenbeard made the extra point to push the lead to 21-14.
The second half started with The Freshmen Rocks driving 70 yards and taking 5 and a half minutes off the clock to score on a pass from Andy Sweet to Josue Gonzalez for a 5 yard score. Giving the freshmen team the final score of 35-14 and improving to 4-1 on the season. The Offensive line of Asher Gannon, Austin Dollens, Juan Obergon, Greg Pietsch, Josh Tuffnell and Chad Reeh did an awesome job of blocking and moving the defense out of the way. #RockReport - Zionsville
Varsity Football hosted the Zionsville Eagles on Friday night, grinding out a 10-7 victory. Offensively, the Shamrocks battled the elements all night, in what would prove to be a sloppy game for both teams. Zane Burtron anchored the O-line, bludgeoning opponents in the mud. Frank Grimes remained consistent in the run game, which had to carry the bulk of the offense due to rainy conditions. The big play of the night was a late pass across the middle from Nick Ferrer to Ben Lotfalian that sparked Westfield’s only score.
The Rock Defense grounded the Eagles for three quarters of scoreless football, giving up a score late with a lead, and holding on for four long downs to seal the victory. Turner Edwards turned in another inspiring performance, notching another interception, and the consistent play of the D-line slugging it out in the trenches stymied Zionsville’s ground attack. Matt Crupi’s forced fumble led to Westfield’s first points on the board, points that would prove to be the difference in the game.
Shamrock Special Teams played a key role in a game that ended up being mostly about field position. Josh Estridge punted the ball magnificently numerous times, and Turner Edwards kept up his exceptional effort in this phase as well. The Field Goal team made sure to capitalize on the Eagle turnover, converting points in a close game.
Special mention should be given to Reynolds, Jacob Eccles, Zach Krieg, Austin Mazura, David George, and Ryan Rubicz. These Rocks made significant contributions in preparing the team for the Friday contest. They made it personal throughout the week, providing the best possible look for their fellow teammates.

#RockReport - JV and Freshmen
A little late this week, but here's the recap of Monday's action...
JV
The Rocks played a game of two opposing halves. In the first half, very little went right for the Rocks, but in the second they were dominant due to their attitude and effort. The Rocks came up short, 30-42, but played well in the second half.
Offensively, the Rocks moved the ball in the first half but mistakes cost them points. They were only able to score 3 points in the first half and found themselves in a 28-3 halftime hole. In the second half, the Rocks made huge plays offensively. The O-Line, led by Zachary Krieg and Jordan Long, played much more physical in the second half. The Line was able to open holes the second half for Jordan Grimes on two long, hard-fought runs for the rocks first touchdowns of the game. Brandon Karsnick also scored on a long run to bring the rocks closer to the Dogs. The McCool brothers hooked up for a trick play touchdown also, Max to Will, to bring the Rocks within 5 points. Unfortunately they would not get closer.
The defense also did not show up for the first half of this game and spotted the Dogs 28 points, but the defense played Rocks-style football in the second half. The Rocks caused 3 turnovers in the second half. Michael Patterson and Chris Davis caused a fumble each. Jacob Pence recovered one fumble and Gavin Cross recovered two, to give the offense multiple chances to make the game closer. Stan Mattingly played very physical and earned defensive player of the game with his second half dominance.
Will Harrison was perfect on his field goals all night. He also kicked a 30 yard field goal in the first half for the only score of that half. Along with those feats, he also perfectly placed an onside kick so that the rocks could recover and score in the second half.
Freshmen
The freshmen football team won a very close game on Monday night, 12-7. They were battling the Brownsburg Bulldogs. The offense drove down through the air midway through the second quarter. On the 5 yard line Andy Sweet made a nice run for the touchdown. The extra point was missed. The Rocks took the lead going into halftime 6-0. After halftime the game kept going back and forth. Brownsburg finally scored and took the lead after their extra point 7-6. The offense marched back down the field and then stalled in the red zone. The defense made 3 excellent stops to force a 20 yard punt. The offense took over with the ball on the 30 yard line and with 3 minutes left. After several holding penalties they were looking at 3rd and 27. Andy Sweet hit Tanner Nichols for 17 yards to bring up 4th and 10 with just over a minute to go. Then Sweet found Caleb Sanburn for a 25 yard gain down to the 5 yard line. The very next play Sanburn ran the ball in for the lead. The defense led by Josh Tuffnell and Brian Skelton stopped them on 4 straight plays to win the game for the rocks. The defense kept the powerful running Bulldogs to under 100 yards for the game. The Shamrocks improved their record to 3-1 and face the Zionsville Eagles on Monday, September 23rd at 6 PM here at home.

Football and Lincolns?
An unlikely union, but Tom Roush Lincoln is interested in supporting Westfield Athletics. I received the following email from our Athletic Director today:
The Westfield Athletic Department has partnered with Tom Roush-Lincoln this Friday night at the football game. Tom Roush will have several vehicles on site. For every person willing to sign up to "test drive" one of their vehicles, Westfield Athletics will receive a $20 donation. "Test Drive" simply means that you sign up and sit in the vehicle, so please consider going to the Tom Roush table at the game and signing up to "Test Drive" a vehicle. Westfield Athletics will also receive a $40 bonus if you follow up and go to the dealership at a later date. So, at the very least, please register and sit in the car on Friday night. You have to be 18 years or older to participate. We appreciate Tom Roush's willingness to help our athletic department. We can earn up to $6,000 on this partnership!!!I don't know about you, but I like sitting in new cars even when no one is paying. Hopefully they'll bring a few with gadgets. Who doesn't like fiddling with gadgets? Bonus... support the Rocks! If you're going to the game Friday anyway (which I know you all are), check it out!
Can I get this in "Rock" Green & Gold? |

#RockReport - Brownsburg
Varsity Football traveled over and pounded the Brownsburg Bulldogs on Friday night, 37-13.
Offensively, the Shamrocks broke it open early with a 60 yard touchdown run by Frank Grimes. Devin Reece took over then and was unstoppable every time he touched the football, scoring at will. Nick Ferrer delivered the ball consistently all night, finding Cole McCrary quite a bit as well. Elvin Caldwell helped seal the advantage with a gutsy run when the offense was backed up against its own goal line, providing breathing room for the Rocks.
The Rock Defense kept the Bulldog offense caged, holding them scoreless for the majority of the night. Turner Edwards led the way with big time production on the field, capped by an interception returned 99 yards for a TD. The consistent play of Jacob Robinson and Adam Horkay anchored the stingy D, keeping all of Brownsburg’s offensive weapons chained. A magnificent goal line stand at the 2 yard line proved that the Bulldog O had far more bark than bite.
Shamrock Special Teams did a great job this week, generating extra possessions for the offense. Nick Dowd split the uprights, providing extra cushion for the Rocks and hitting an important Field Goal early. Josh Beer buoyed the positive play in this phase of the game, and Cameron Harrison recovered a key turnover from the Bulldogs.
Special mention should be given to Evan Harlan, Jordan Grimes, and Brock Ginder. These Rocks made significant contributions in preparing the team for the Friday contest. They brought the hammer throughout the week, providing the best possible look for their fellow teammates.

#RockReport - JV and Freshmen
JV
The JV Football Team suffered a heart-breaking loss again this week. After leading or being tied for most of the game, midway through the fourth, the Rocks gave up the lead for the first and last time.
Offensively, the Rocks moved the ball effectively into the red zone on most every drive. On the first possession of the game, Jordan Grimes ran for 80 yards with the assistance of blocks down field by Will McCool and Nick Henderson. Jordan scored again later in the half on another long run giving the Rocks the lead for the second time. The Rocks were able to drive the ball down the field on the last possession of the third quarter and Brandon Karsnick was able to pound the ball into the end zone on a tone setting play for the Rocks. Will McCool and Bryce Sears added important third down converting catches in the second half, but mistakes kept the offense out of the end zone.
Defensively, the Rocks played a great game for the majority of the day. Chris Davis and the rest of the D-Line were in the backfield the majority of the night. The Tigers first score came with less than a minute left in the first half with a long reception putting them into scoring position. The Rocks secondary was in position the majority of the night thanks to great plays by Luke Lammers and Jacob Eccles. The Tigers were only able to move the ball late in the game thanks to scrambling throws by the quarterback. The downfall for the Rocks on this night were mistakes in coverage but not a lack of effort.
In the special teams phase, Will Harrison came up from the freshman team to kick for JV team. Will converted every extra-point which was a huge boost to the Rocks. His kick-offs were also very helpful in pinning the Tigers in their own territory. Gavin Cross and Wes Gagnon had big tackles to keep the Tigers on their heels on the kickoff team as well.
Next week, the JV Rocks will be at home vs. Brownsburg High School on Saturday, 9/14 at 10:00 am.

#RockReport - Fishers
Varsity Football put on one heck of a show Saturday night in Lucas Oil Stadium. The Rocks faced the always tough Fishers Tigers, fighting all the way through regulation and into three overtimes before falling to Fishers 48-45.
Offensively, the Shamrocks were dominant all night, driving the ball at will on the Tigers. Nick Ferrer and Devin Reece combined as the spearhead of the Rock aerial attack. The ground game remained consistent on the legs of Elvin Caldwell and behind the blocking of Anthoney Daugherty. Cole McCrary turned in a highlight performance as well.
The Rock Defense gave great effort against one of the highest scoring offenses in the conference. Luke Peters was everywhere on the field, recovering fumbles, making tackles, and intercepting passes. Keyonte Crawford had a huge play late in the game, forcing a fumble to save the Shamrock advantage.
Shamrock Special Teams got the ball rolling early with a forced fumble by Luke Peters. Wes Gagnon recovered and nearly returned it for a touchdown, setting up the Rock O for an easy score. Matt Crupi was consistent all night on the special teams, which kept one of the most explosive returners the Shamrocks will face all season from scoring in this phase of the game.
Special mention should be given to Will McCool, Colton Murphy, and Zach Patterson. These Rocks made significant contributions in preparing the team for the Friday contest. They kept the focus throughout the week, providing the best possible look for their fellow teammates.

#RockReport - JV and Freshmen
JV
The JV Football Team suffered a heart-breaker this week. After leading for the majority of the game, the Rocks gave up a late score to lose 12-13 to the Orioles.
Offensively, the rocks moved the ball on every drive. The offense scored on their second possession with the help of Brandon Karsnick running the ball and a long fade route from Sam Trompen to Will McCool for the touchdown. The next drive sputtered out inside of the 5 yard line, but the Rocks were unable to convert. A 3rd quarter run by Jordan Grimes, breaking tackles and outrunning the Orioles for 40 yards helped to put the Rocks on top 12-6. After Avon scored in the 4th quarter, the Rocks received the kickoff at the 1 yard line with 4 min left in the game. The offense drove 90 yards with the help of the offensive line and Jonathan Mendoza and had an opportunity to win the game on a last second fade to Nick Henderson. Nick gave a great effort but could not haul the pass in.
Defensively, the rocks put up a great fight. The whole game, the rocks were giving the Oriole offense fits with countless negative yardage plays thanks to efforts from Evan Harlan and Colton Murphy. Colin White contributed with great plays from the secondary. The Rocks D held Avon to one score until late in the fourth. They gave a great effort and gave the team a chance to win the game.
In the special teams phase, Jonathan Mendoza was a bright light on the kick-off team. The kicker plays a very important role in kicking the ball exactly where it needs to be to give the kick-off team the best opportunity to make a play. Jonathan did a great job of always kicking the ball where it needed to be.
The JV Rocks will at away next week at Fishers High school on Monday the 9th at 6:00 pm.

The offense got the ball to start the 2nd half and marched right down but had to settle for a 22 yard field goal by David Mendoza. This field goal put Westfield up 17-6. There was no fear on the sidelines and the offense calmly marched down the field completing 5 and 7 yard routes with ease. Josue Gonzalez made several important catches in the last seconds of the game. Then with 14.6 seconds left Andy sweet scrambled to his right and found Evan Manley open in the corner for a 4 yard go ahead touchdown.

#RockReport - Avon
Varsity Football released a feeding frenzy at Avon Friday night, opening a lead early and then hanging on to win 17-15.
Offensively, the Shamrocks bit early, opening the 17-6 lead at half time. Frank Grimes turned in another magnificent performance, bolstering the growing reputation of the Rock ground attack. Elvin Caldwell added his own consistent play, finding the end zone yet again this week. With blood in the water, the Rock defense swarmed and held onto the lead despite the Orioles attempts at a comeback. Turner Edwards led the way, aided by the consistent play of Mitch Turley. Turley’s late inception of an Avon pass sealed the win for the Rocks. Shamrock Special Teams held the Orioles in check behind thanks to the efforts of Cameron Harrison and Adam Horkay. The entire punt team stayed hungry all night, keeping Avon from gaining any easy yards and helping to protect the advantage.
Special mention should be given to Brandon Karsnick, Julian Lytle, Colton Murphy, and Warrick Hinshaw. These Rocks made significant contributions in preparing the team for the Friday contest. They had their fins up throughout the week, providing the best possible look for their fellow teammates.
Resolve to support Rocks Football next Saturday, when Westfield will travel to LUCAS OIL STADIUM to face the Fishers Tigers. Kickoff is at 7:30pm.
