Rocks Season Ends at Carmel

On Friday, your Rocks traveled south to face the Carmel Greyhounds for the Sectional Championship, losing 35-7. The loss marks the end of the road for the 2019 Rocks, as losses do for so many teams at this time of year. As coaches, the loss brings with it a deep, aching emptiness that echoes the sadness we know that our players feel. Still, as we often remind our tearful young men: It stings because it meant something.

This game was not how we would have predicted our season to end. Obviously, we always have hope that we can win out, and avoid the sting of loss. But deep playoff runs are rare, with championships rarer still. It is both challenge and opportunity that finds us squaring off against the very best teams in the state, both in conference play, and in our sectional. So every year, we prepare for what we know will be a steep postseason climb. In that regard, we felt that this team, especially this senior class, had put in the work and were ready to battle until the bitter end. And, they did, though the score and narrative of the final game felt more fizzle than bang. It was a game that perhaps we wish we could have another hack at. Still, credit and congratulations go to the talented Carmel squad as they earned the opportunity to advance.

The 2019 Rocks end the year with a 6-5 record (3-4 HCC). We wish to express our gratitude to all of the support that we had along the way. The student body, administration, parents, and fans all regularly remind us of how blessed we are to play in a community that loves ours players and the sport of football. One particular image from Friday's game will stick in my mind. The first half had not gone our way and, being on the road, you do not expect a whole lot of fire from the fans when you're going to come out and try to dig out of a big hole in the second half. A solid group of loud fans, parents I assume, clustered around the exit of the locker room and cheered their heads off as we came out. It fills our hearts and lifts our spirits to know how much you care and support us, even when we're down. It's something that I've always felt is a credit to our supporters, as this was not a particular exception, but perhaps doubly meaningful with how the night was going. Thank you for being there.

Finally, as always, we want to express our love and gratitude for our seniors. We would not trade one minute that we had with you, and we hope that your experience with our football family will forever remain one of the highlights of your life. Like our fans now, we will always be here for you. Once a Rock, always a Rock.

#Gameday Rocks at Carmel

Tonight, your Rocks will travel to Carmel High School to face the Greyhounds in the Sectional Championship. Carmel is 7-3 for the season, with losses to Trinity (KY), Ben Davis, and North Central. The Greyhounds earned a 28-14 victory last week against HSE in order to advance.

Carmel averages 22.5 points on 219 yards per game (149 ground). They are led by RB Dylan Downing (#2), who has racked up 784 yards on 123 carries and 8 touchdowns. This is a team that wants to pound the football and will be looking to establish the run game in order to grind out another victory. The Rock D will obviously need to counter this with tough, united defense, while giving the offense opportunities to punch in their own points.

It's going to be a cold one tonight, with game time temperature looking to be around 25F. Bundle up, and we'll see you in just a few hours down at Carmel Stadium. Kickoff is set for 7pm.

#RockReport Rocks vs Fishers, Sectional I

The Shamrock offense was led by the Mason Piening and Dane Wheeler. Ayden Parker, Jacob Netral, and Ross Krieg added consistent play in the line. The big play was reception by Piening where he shed multiple tackles, outracing Tigers to the endzone while nearly getting caught by Netral from the line.

The Rock D was led by Micah Hauser and Benji Welch. Eli Patchett and David Frey tacked on consistent play. Popeye Williams, Benji Welch, Owen Ogle, and Grant Joyce all contributed big plays on the night, taking the ball away from the Tigers multiple times.

Shamrock Special Teams were led by Micah Hauser. Sean Sullivan added consistent kicks throughout the night, while Jack Pfeiffer had the big play.

Special mention should be given to Jonathan Hernandez, Jonathon Frey, Eli Carter, and Dalen Blanding. These Rocks made significant contributions in preparing the team for the Friday contest. During the week, they show us what it means to be united, providing the best possible look for their fellow teammates.

The Rocks will travel to face the Carmel Greyhounds for the Sectional 4 title next Friday. Kickoff is scheduled for 7pm.

#Gameday Rocks vs Tigers, Sectional I

Tonight, your Rocks will open sectional play by hosting the Fishers Tigers. The Tigers finished the regular season with a 7-2 overall record (5-2 HCC). MaxPreps has them ranked at #5 in the state, while they finished tied with Brownsburg for second in the conference. Their last game was a 42-35 win over Zionsville.

Fishers is averaging 24.7 points on 310 yards per game (171 ground). Their running attack is led by senior RB Dylan Scally (#20). He has compiled 921 yards on 166 carries with 8 rushing TDs. QB Marcus Roux has accounted for another 6 rushing TDs while completing 55% of his passes for a 88.6 QBR. He's compiled 1225 passing yards and 14 touchdowns. His targets are pretty evenly split between Jeffry Simmons (#86; 26/350/5) and Nick Leath (#45; 25/292/3).

The last time these two teams faced off, the Tigers came from behind in the fourth quarter, scoring 12 unanswered points to earn the 19-14 victory. Look for this to be another close game, as both teams have had two weeks to prepare for the contest. It could come down to a handful of key big plays for each side.

No directions needed for this one. Game time is looking to be around 30 degrees with a small chance at precipitation. Bundle up, and come out to Riverview Health Stadium to support your Rocks in the first of the win-or-go-home contests that make fall Indiana football so exciting. Kickoff is set for 7pm.
