The Westfield Junior Varsity football team played their third game of the season and first conference game on Saturday against the Zionsville Eagles. The Rocks came out strong scoring 20 points in the first quarter and putting the game out of reach with a final score of 27-7.
The Rocks offense was efficient and explosive. Sophomore quarterback Camden Simons threw touchdown passes on the Rocks first two possessions including a short pass and 50 yard run by sophomore receiver Mason Cox and a short dump off pass to sophomore utility player Eli Patchett. Sophomore running back Trevor Lickfeldt ran hard for two scores thru open holes provided by a dominant line lead by sophomores Griffin Burge and Aiden Parker.
The Rocks defense and special teams played aggressively and physically, keeping the Eagles on their heels all day. Several turnovers stymied Eagle drives including a strip and recovery from junior cornerback Sean Sykes and another strip and recovery from junior linebacker Aiden White. Juniors Calvin Grenda and Copper Boehm applied pressure on the quarterback all day. Junior Luke DesNoyers made three extra points for the Rocks and Junior Andy Manzur provided a huge punt which was downed inside the 5 by sophomore Jacob Riddle.
The JV Rocks football team will look to keep their momentum going when they play noblesville High School on Saturday September 9th at 10 a.m away @ nHS.
