#RockReport JV vs HSE

The final posting for today is the JV Recap. I'm not sure if we're going to be able to get the freshman recap fully written up, but they won as well. Younger Rocks, gettin' it done!

The Westfield Junior Varsity football team played their fifth game of the season and third conference game on Saturday against Royals of Hamilton Southeastern.  The Rocks were a little short handed and had to fight as a team in order to pull out their 5th win of the season, 17-14.

The Rocks offense was stymied all morning by a stout Royals defense.  There were a few sparks throughout the day coming from sophomore receivers Luke Jankowski, Jacob Riddle, Sammy Baldwin, and Mason Cox.  The Rocks took a lead late in the 1st half ignited by a long pass to Jankowski capped off by a short run by sophomore QB Camden Simons.  Later the Rocks were able to retake the lead on a pass from Simons to Cox after a punt was blocked by Junior Cooper Boehm.  Baldwin added a 2 point conversion to give the Rocks a 14-7 lead.  The Rocks found themselves tied at 14 with 50 seconds remaining on the clock.  Simons engineered a game winning drive from the Rocks on 40 which resulted in a field goal by Junior kicker Andy Manzur.

The Rocks defense played exceptionally most of the day on Saturday while the offense had their troubles.  Boehm was player of the game while playing defensive end and applying countless pressures on the Royals quarterback.  Boehm was bookended by junior defensive end Calvin Grenda who provided the play of the game for the defense, a stop on 3rd down with a massive hit and resulted in the Boehm punt block.  The driving force behind the consistency of the defense was provided by junior linebacker Zach Collins who had another outstanding game.

The JV Rocks football team will look to keep their momentum going when they play Brownsburg High School on Saturday September 23th  at 10 a.m @ BHS.
