#RockReport JV @ Harrison

The Westfield Junior Varsity football team played their first game of the season on Saturday against the Raiders of Lafayette Harrison.  The Rocks took an early lead into halftime, but the Raiders answered in the second half with a flurry of touchdowns making the score 27-26 Rocks in the 3rd quarter.  The Rocks weathered the storm and came out of an exciting game victorious with a 39-26 win.

The Rocks offense was lead by sophomore quarterback Camden Simons who was 16 of 17 completing passes to 5 different receivers, 1 touchdown pass to sophomore Elijah Patchett, and 1 rushing touchdown.  The Rocks running game was anchored by a rotating door of linemen, but the most consistent was junior center and guard Justin Case.  The line opened holes for multiple running backs including sophomore Trevor Lickfeldt who had two touchdown runs and junior Blair Clark who added one more touchdown in the second half.

The Rocks defense and special teams had a pendulous day, with great ebbs and flows.  The defensive line for the Rocks was solidified by junior defensive end Calvin Grenda and sophomore defensive tackle Luke Honeycutt, but the spark that propelled the Rocks to victory during their darkest moments was  provided by junior linebacker Cooper Boehm.  Cooper seemed to be inspired by a muse from the stands in the 3rd quarter when he forced a fumble, recovered the fumble, and returned it for a touchdown all in the same play.  The very next possession he chased a play down from behind and forced another fumble, recovered by sophomore defensive back Braden Breedlove.  To finish the game Cooper once again force a fumble on an effort play and this time Honeycutt recovered.

The JV Rocks football team will look to keep their momentum going when they play Southport High School on Saturday August 26th at 10 a.m @ home.
