After an off-season of growing, learning, and building, the freshman Rocks of Westfield chomped at the bit to play their long-awaited first football game of 2017. An energy and enthusiasm permeated the Riverview Health Stadium as the Rocks took the field. The sidelines abuzz, the Rocks took the ball first and swiftly went to work. Throughout the first half of the game, the Rocks’ offense bulldozed its way up and down the field. Player of the game Jack Pfeiffer carried the rock behind a solid offensive line with many different contributors up front. Mr. Consistency, QB Nick Talley, managed the game and led his troops on the field of play. Behind his arm, wide receivers Mason Piening and Carson Voorhis were targeted on big pass plays. After every score the kickoff squad consistently pinned the Raider offense deep in their own territory setting up the Westfield D for a great series.
Defensively, the Rocks dominated throughout the first half. Player of the game David Frey was in on
seemingly every tackle. Linebacker Zander Nguyen also stepped up and found his way to the ball
multiple times.
As the second half ran its course, the Raiders picked away at the score; however, a big pass from Nick Talley to Carson Voorhis kept an offensive drive alive, leading to another go-ahead score and a definitive victory for the Rocks.
In the fifth quarter, the Rocks continued to push themselves to their full potential. Notably, defensive linemen Brad Kaufman and Seth Poriah combined for a takeaway and big run to finish the game.
This Saturday, August 26 th , the Rocks will travel to Southport High School in Indianapolis for their game against the Cardinals kicking off at 10:00 a.m. Go Rocks!
