A lot of post-season accolades for our Rocks!
First, Will Harrison is named Mr. Football at the Kicker position. Read about it here.
Second, an avalanche of Rocks were named to the 5A All-State Team. Two on offense. Two on defense. And 11 honorable mentions! Check that out here.

New Rock Helmets
It's getting close to the end of the Indianapolis Colts Helmets competition. It would be great to nominate the champs for new 5-star helmets, keeping our hard-working players safe. You can help us by nominating your Rocks, making sure we are well represented for the final drawing (we already won one of the preliminary drawings way back in week 2). You can read more about the promotion in the flyer below, or at the link HERE.

#RockReport State Final
Last night, 119 Rocks, led by 40 seniors, took the field at Lucas Oil Stadium, ate, and returned as Champions. Your Rocks captured the school's first ever football State Title on the back of a gritty, physical performance against an equally solid opponent in the Columbus East Olympians. 16-13 was the final score in a game that came down to the wire.
The Shamrock offense produced big first downs when the team needed them, also punching in the lone Rock TD of the night. They protected the ball and set up the special teams for 3 crucial field goals. In the end, it was fitting that this group should be given the ball one last time, kneeling it three times to seal the victory.
This year's Rock D will go down as perhaps the best in school history, allowing just over 14 points per game and holding a potent Olympian offense to only 13 points. They slammed the door in the second half, shutting out their opponent and coming up with huge stops when called upon. No stop was bigger, perhaps, than when East was threatening the goal line near the end of the game, coming as close as the 1 yard line, only to be denied after four downs.
Shamrock Special Teams played the high scorers of the night, generating 9 points and executing perfectly when on the field. They maintained the field position advantage, drilled field goals, and kept all Olympian return efforts contained. Special recognition should be given to Will Harrison's State Finals record 52-yard field goal that was the first of the Rocks' points.
There is so much to find impressive in this group of young men. From the 40 seniors displaying selflessness on a daily basis, finding and embracing productive roles on a team in which a majority of them could not find regular playing time due to their sheer number, to the younger players who thrived beneath the leadership and offered excellent scout team preparation down the tournament stretch. This team was built upon the foundation of "Heart" and "Family," and it used those principles, attacking every day, in order to earn success on the biggest of high school stages.
We have a lot to be grateful for today. Grateful for the opportunity and support within our fantastic community. Grateful for the fans and parents that provide the fertile soil in which the seeds of success are grown. Grateful for the managers and support staff that work tirelessly behind the scenes nourishing and caring for those seeds. Grateful for the 119 young men who put in 339 days of intense effort growing the seeds. But most of all, grateful for the 40 seniors who, finally, were able to taste the fruits of their hard-earned labor.
Congratulations to the 2016 Class 5A State Champion Westfield Shamrocks. We, the coaches, hope that this has been one of the most amazing experiences of your lives, and feel truly blessed to have been given the opportunity to help you reach your full potential as a football family. What a great day to be a Shamrock!

#GameDay State Finals
Tonight, your Rocks will head to Lucas Oil Stadium for the IHSAA class 5A State Final, where they will face the Columbus East Olympians. The Olympians come in 13-1, representing the south, and having defeated New Pal, Martinsville, Whiteland, Zionsville, and Bloomington South to get here. Their closest game was against Zionsville, which they won by 7 points. Westfield defeated that same Eagles team early in the season by 40. Westfield and Columbus East have only faced each other one time, in 1972 during the regular season. The Shamrocks won that contest, 33-0.
The Olympians come in averaging an impressive 47 points per game on 446 yards (350 rushing). They are led by RB Jamon Hogan (#23), who averages 162 rushing yards per game. QB Josh Major (#2) doesn't throw much, but when he does, it often gains large chunks of yardage or a touchdown. The touchdown tally is split pretty evenly between the two starting wide receivers, Caleb Voelker (#10) and Cam Wilson (#18), with 4 and 3 respectively.
As has been the case in the latter half of this tournament, the Rock D will need to stop a potent running game, while staying awake on the back end to prevent the play-action pass. Look for a grind it out, nail-biter, type of game, similar to what we witnessed last week against Fort Wanye Snider. Unlike that game, though, the weather will not be a factor as there are always perfect football conditions in Lucas Oil Stadium. Look for the Shamrocks to bring their physical play to the biggest of stages, hoping to earn the school's first football state title.
Trust me, you don't want to miss this one. If you can't make it in person, check out the stream on IHSAAtv.org. Otherwise, we'll see you downtown! Kickoff is scheduled for 7:05pm.

#RockReport - Semi-State vs Fort Wayne Snider
Photo credit: Kirk Green - VarsityViews |
On offense, the Shamrocks were led by Andy Sweet, who led the team and took care of the football in terrible conditions. Chad Reeh and Matthew Robinson added consistent play on the line, while the big play of the night came when Sweet hit Evan Manley down the sideline shortly before half time.
The Rock D rose to the challenge and, after a shaky start, held a potent Panther offense to only 7 points in the second half, sealing the game with big stops in the closing minutes. They were led by Collin Caldwell's fantastic play, as well as the consistent play of Jackson Garrett. The D recovered a big fumble in the second half, forced by Caldwell and scooped by Garrett.
The real start of the night, however, was the Shamrock Special Teams. On a night when the other phases were pretty neck and neck with the opponent, special teams really came through and shined. Will Harrison had a stellar game, booting both a 53 yard field goal and a key 58 yard punt into the wind. Jackson Garrett also contributed here with solid holds for the kicker, and a blocked punt.
Special mention should be given to Michael Delaney, Matt Meyer, Tanner Nichols, and Matthew Noyes. These Rocks made significant contributions in preparing the team for the Friday contest. They attacked each day during the week, providing the best possible look for their fellow teammates.
The Shamrocks will return to the field one final time on Saturday, this time playing in Lucas Oil for the State Championship. They will face the Columbus East Olympians. Kickoff will follow the preceding game, and is tentatively scheduled for 7:05pm.

#GameDay Semi-State vs Snider
Tonight, your Rocks will host the Fort Wayne Snider Panthers in a Semi-State contest that promises to be a clash of titans. Both teams have dominated their brackets in the tournament so far, and are hoping to secure a berth to the State Title game with a win tonight. Snider comes into the contest with spotless 12-0 record, having demolished Mishawaka, Goshen, and Concord so far in the tournament.
Snider averages 42 points per game on 397 yards (292 rushing). They are led by RB Money Woods (#3), who averages 108 yards per game and has found the end zone 15 times. Junior QB Michael Haupert (#10) helms the offense, hooking up often with WR Mac Hippenhammer (#2) for 608 yards and 7 touchdowns through the air.
The Rock D will have their work cut out for them tonight, attempting to limit one of the best offenses in the state. Hippenhammer is a special athlete, and the Snider run game parallels the Rocks own in terms of potency. On offense, the Shamrocks will need to protect the ball and take care of business. Expect a bruising chess match of a game tonight, where each team looks to check the other team's myriad of weapons, limit mistakes, and pound their way to victory.
Obviously, with a trip to state on the line, we need to pack Riverview Health Stadium tonight. It's looking like the nice weather will turn on us, so dress warm, and bring your outdoor voices. It's time to rock the Rock. No directions needed for this one. Kickoff has been pushed back slightly due to travel time, and is scheduled for 7:30pm.

Semi-State Kickoff Time
Kickoff has officially been moved back to 7:30pm for the Semi-State contest this Friday. There are only four 5A teams still alive, that means only two 5A games in the entire state! One of them will be just down the road in Riverview Health Stadium. Come out and cheer on your Rocks.

Offensively, the Shamrocks had some new names step up to lead the way. Josue Gonzalez turned in an impressive game, providing a huge catch and score before the half that put the Rocks up by 10. Hayden Russell and Kyle Pepiot also tacked on consistent play, stepping up against a physical Wildkat team that challenged the offense.
The Rock D dominated last night. They held a unique and potent Wildkat offense to only 7 points. Chris Zolto lead the way with physical play, putting the icing on the cake with an interception late in the game that he returned for a touchdown. Collin Caldwell and Josh Tuffnell also stepped up for the D, stonewalling the Wildkat running attack. The big play of the night was a huge fourth down stop early, where the Rock D refused to grant a yard when Kokomo attempted a Quarterback Sneak.
Shamrock Special Teams provide a few key plays as well. Early in the game, they blocked a punt that was scooped and returned to the one yard line, setting up the offense for an easy score. Will Harrison drilled a field goal in the first half, and Josh Tuffnell had a key, momentum-gaining return when Kokomo tried a chip kick to him to start the second half.
Special mention should be given to Eli Ross and the entire Scout Offense. These Rocks made significant contributions in preparing the team for the Friday contest, especially when you face the sort of unqiue look that Kokomo presents. They attacked each day during the week, providing the best possible look for their fellow teammates. A good look from the scout teams absolutely translated to on-field domination this week.
The Rocks will host the Semi-State contest next week, where they will face the Fort Wayne Snider Panthers. Kickoff is typically scheduled for 7pm, but may be pushed back due to the length of travel for the visitors. Stay tuned for updates later in the week.

Green Out T-Shirts!
By the way, tonight is a "green out," and up until 6pm, our friends at My Logo Shop have a sale on playoff Tshirts. Snag a free third down rally rag with purchase. Might as well pick one up on the way to the game, right? Check it out:
It's sort of off the beaten path, so I thought a map was in order:
#GameDay Regional Championship - Kokomo
Tonight, your Rocks will host the Kokomo Wildkats for the Regional Championship. Kokomo is looking to defend their title from last year, when they beat Westfield 21-19. The Rocks will be looking for revenge.
Kokomo comes into the game with an 8-2 record, and on a 7 game winning streak. They defeated Muncie Central last week in the Sectional Championship. In terms of common opponents, the Wildkats defeated Harrison (by 3) and Jeff (by 6), losing to McCutcheon (by 7). They run a unique scrum-style offense that really focuses on pounding the football, sprinkling in just enough passes to keep a defense honest. They average 30 points per game on 371 yards (301 on the ground). In their last game, they passed only three times, but all three were for touchdowns. RB Keenen Wheeler (#31) is the focal point of their offense, averaging 178 all purpose yards per game.
Offensively, the Rocks will need to put points up against a team that really likes to grind out victories against good teams. The Rock D will need to limit Wheeler and stop the run, staying alert for those dangerous passes. This will be a grit it out, physical game that could again come down to the wire.
As such, we would love to pack the stands and rock the Rock. High school sports don't get much better than Friday Night Lights in November (especially with the great weather we've been having). No directions needed for this one. Kickoff is scheduled for 7pm.

#RockReport Sectional Championship - McCutcheon
Photocredit: Hamilton County Reporter |
Offensively, the Shamrocks refused to be tackled for most of the night. This mentality was most evident on an early Nate Froelich run, during which he carried several defensive players en route to a score. Matt Robinson and Drew Johnson added consistent play.
The Rock D frustrated the Maverick offense all night, allowing only a late touchdown with the game well in hand. Colin Caldwell led the defensive line dominance, with the added consistent play of Brian Skelton. Josh Tuffnell anchored the linebacking corps, while the big play of the night came on a Justin Frey interception.
The Shamrock Special Teams executed perfectly, refusing to allow the Mavericks to gain any moment in this phase of the game. Jackson Garrett provided solid holds, with Will Harrison splitting the uprights on several kicks, the biggest of which was a 50 yard field goal that added to the Shamrock lead.
Special mention should be given to Trevor Lickfeldt, Mark McClaurin, Zach Allen, Ryan Mahoney, and Devin McGinnis. These Rocks made significant contributions in preparing the team for the Friday contest. They attacked each day during the week, providing the best possible look for their fellow teammates.
Next week's Regional Championship will be at beautiful Riverview Health Stadium, as the Rocks look to avenge themselves against Kokomo. Kickoff is scheduled for 7pm.

#GameDay Sectional Championship vs McCutcheon
Tonight, the Lafayette McCutcheon Mavericks roll into Riverview Health Stadium, looking to spoil Westfield's stranglehold on the Sectional. Your Rocks have won the last three Sectional Championships, and will look to add a fourth tonight. The Mavericks, however, will not make it easy. They come in with an 8-2 record, having beaten Harrison 29-12 last week in order to advance.
During the regular season, the Mavs lost to Harrison 23-20, and beat Lafayette Jeff 45-3, rounding out the only opponents that they have in common with the Rocks. Their offense is a grind it out, time of possession style running attack that will challenge the Rock D physically. The score 30 points per game on 313 yards (205 on the ground). RB Darren Lathrop (#30) leads the team in rushing with 723 yards, while Drew Retherford (#23) has punched it in for the Mavs 8 times. RB Austin Bennett (#21) has come on late in the year when injuries put him in the starting role, and has racked up 501 yards, coming alive for the Mavs down the stretch. QB Peyton Williams (#2) will look to find WR Gavin Dunbar (#7) when the Mavs do throw the ball, as Dunbar leads the team with 501 yards on 28 receptions. Isaac Angstadt (#6) is a close second, with 327 yards on 23 receptions.
The Shamrock Offense will need to stay hot, capitalizing on its chances as the Mavs will look to limit the Rocks by not allowing many offensive touches. Look for a tough, physical game. Both teams will need to play physical and limit mistakes to come away with the win.
No directions needed for this one. The Rock should be rockin' tonight, so come on out for some vintage Indiana playoff football, and cheer on your Rocks. Kickoff is scheduled for 7pm.

#RockReport Sectional I - Jeff
Offensively, the Shamrocks exploded in the first half, scoring all of their points before halftime and going in with a 38-0 lead. Johnny Swidan led the way, dragging would-be Broncho tacklers as the Shamrock offense pounded the rock. Chad Reeh and Andy Sweet tacked on consistent play in support of the dominant run game, while tossing just enough passes to keep the Broncho defense on their heels. The big play of the night came on the first drive, when Sweet hooked up with Evan Manley for a long touchdown.
The Rock D stifled the Bronchos and generated plenty of turnovers to help put this game away early. Brian Skelton seemed to be all over the ball last night, coming away with several takeaways, including a key interception on one of the early Broncho drives. Jackson Garrett and Caleb Sanburn kept things consistent with physical play both in the box and in the secondary. The Rocks held the Bronchos scoreless in the first half, and only gave up scores late with the game well in hand.
Shamrock special teams got in on the fun last night, generating a blocked punt that Skelton returned for a touchdown. The field goal team was also able to put one through for a score after one of the Broncho turnovers, and William Harrison launched a booming punt one of the few times the Rocks found themselves pinned in their own territory, flipping the field.
Special mention should be given to Jeremiah Edwards, Trevor Lickfelt, and Cam Simons. These Rocks made significant contributions in preparing the team for the Friday contest. They attacked each day during the week, providing the best possible look for their fellow teammates.

#GameDay Sectional I @ Lafayette Jefferson Bronchos
Tonight, your Rocks will travel to Lafayette in order to face the Bronchos of Jefferson High School in the opening round of their Sectional. The Bronchos enter with a 6-3 record, coming off a 55-48 win two weeks ago against Muncie Central. The only opponent that they share with Westfield is the Harrison Raiders, to whom they lost 40-8 back in week 4. (The Rocks won their week 1 contest against the Raiders 38-17.)
The Bronchos come in with a hot hand on the offensive side of the ball. While they average 30 points per game on 378 yards (216 on the ground), they have put up 55, 47, and 50 points in their last three contests, so this is a team that can score. The Rock D will have its work cut out for them, limiting a speedy Broncho ground attack. RB Latrell Brown (#22) leads the way averaging just shy of 100 rushing yards per game, while QB Mathew Wilkerson (#16) throws for 158 yards per game. Wilkerson's favorite targets are WRs Justin Walker (#2) and Jalen Williams (#9) with 5 and 7 TDs, respectively. Walker will also occasionally line up in the "wildcat" formation, utilizing his exceptional speed for a different style of rushing attack.
The Shamrock offense will need to dominate the line tonight, pounding the rock with their signature running attack. Look for big chunks of yardage on the ground as the Rocks aim to control the game flow with physical, smash-mouth football.
This is the first of hopefully many playoff games, but every game can certainly be the last. We know Lafayette is quite the drive, but we could use all the friendly voices we can get on the road, during the playoffs. Need directions? We've got you covered. Kickoff is scheduled for 7pm. See you there!

#RockReport Freshmen vs Hamilton Heights
The Freshman Rocks of Westfield capped off their season on Saturday, October 15th, with an impressive win over the Hamilton Heights Huskies at beautiful Riverview Health Stadium – Home of the Rocks.
After a big kickoff return by Special Teams Mr. Consistency Award Winner Trevor Lickfeldt, the Rock Offense took charge of the game. On the game’s first play, the Rocks set the tone for the rest of the game. Eli Patchett, offensive player of the game, took the wide toss from Camden Simons; instead of running it down the field, Patchett set his feet behind the offensive line and dialed up Dane Wheeler running undefended along the sideline. Patchett delivered the pass right into the hands of the speedy Wheeler who ran the ball into the end zone for a long first touchdown.
After a Jacob Riddle kickoff, the Rock Defense went out to work. The Huskies moved down the field; however, the Rocks merely bent, and never broke. Big tackles on the drive came from Gabe Henderson and Aidan White on a big fourth down stop in the red zone.
The Rocks’ second score came quickly. After a solid Lickfeldt run to start the drive, Cam Simons found Eli Patchett over the middle of the field on a slant. Patchett ran unabated into the end zone for a 70 yard touchdown. A Jacob Riddle PAT made the score 14-0 with 4:50 left in the first quarter.
The defense’s second drive was impressive, as the defensive line set up a brick wall impossible for the Huskies to run around. Griffin Burge and Ross Krieg combined for a number of stops, forcing a three and out.
The Rocks run game wasted no time in getting into the mix on the third drive. Quarterback Camden Simons called his own number to get positive rushing yards, and Offensive Mr. Consistency Trevor Lickfeldt powered his way to the end zone following behind crushing interference from the six blocks of granite known as the Westfield Offensive Line – Krieg, Netral, Parker, Honeycutt, Mclaurin and Kaster. A Riddle PAT made the score 21-0.
Defensively, the Rocks forced an immediate turnover. After a sack for the defense’s big play, Gabe Henderson came through yet again with a fumble-inducing tackle recovered by Krieg to set up the Rock O with the ball while still in the first quarter.
As the second quarter commenced, the Rock Offense started the drive with a Simons passing attempt. After the incomplete pass, Trevor Lickfeldt outflanked the defense with a 30 yard run to the end zone. A penalty on the PAT attempt allowed the Rocks to go for two, which they converted with Lickfeldt running in once again, making the score 29-0.
The Rocks kept their pedal to the floor, as Riddle kicked a picture perfect pooch onside, which was recovered by the Grant Joyce for the big play of special teams. The Rocks Offense capitalized on this, and marched the ball down the field. The offensive line led the charge with great runs by Lickfeldt, Zach Allen, and Eli Patchett, who scored on a powerful charge. That marked Patchett’s 3rd score – one through passing, one through receiving, and one through running. Riddle’s extra point tagged onto the score, leading to 36-0.
The Huskies’ following drive was followed by the likes of Zach Allen, who physically disrupted a pass thrown his way, and Luke Honeycutt, who burst through the line to get a big 3rd down stop. The Rock O took over the ball but had to punt it away, leading to a Heights score. The extra point made the score 36-7 in favor of the Rocks.
The Rock offense got one last opportunity to score before the half, and they took full advantage of this. Led by Cam Simons, the offense marched down the field like clockwork. A big pass from Simons to Patchett led to a physical 15 yard Lickfeldt touchdown. The extra point brought the score to 43-7.
As the second half commenced, the Huskies scored their final touchdown the initial kickoff return. The point after attempt failed, leading to a score of 43-13. The Rocks continued to play physical football. Zach Allen took the reins at running back, and Hunter Will took charge of the offense. Both players found themselves gaining big run yardage. Defense continued to play its physical brand of football. Alan White wreaked havoc on the Husky side of the line of scrimmage from his position of defensive tackle. Defensive Player of the Game Grant Joyce came down with a big pick to finish the game and secure the victory in the hands of the Rocks.
The 2016 football season was great. The freshman Rocks finished with a 5-4 record and are now hungry to join the Varsity on their quest for a state championship. Marked with improvement and many enjoyable moments, this season was unique for the special quality of the young men and their love of the game. The 2016 freshman class will continue its winning ways as it develops as a part of the Varsity squad, and they will be great contributors in years to come!

#RockReport JV @ Brebeuf
The Westfield Junior Varsity football team had its final game of the season vs the Braves of Brebeuf Jesuit Preparatory High School. The JV Rocks were looking to overcome a season record of 1-4 earlier this year and bring that mark up to 5-4 with a victory vs the Braves. The were successful, winning 31-13.
The JV Rocks offense overcame a few miscues earlier in the game and ended up with a dominant 31 point performance. Junior quarterback Cameron Nance rushed for two scores and provided clutch plays for the Rocks running for first downs and hooking up with junior wide receiver Tyler Canada for a crucial first down in the second half. Sophomore running back Owen McGraw also delivered a huge play at the start of the second half with a big run of 45 yards for the touchdown on the first play of the half to blow the game wide open. McGraw also had two touchdowns on the ground for the day. The offensive line performed admirably on their final game of the season anchored by sophomore center Justin Case who had himself a hammer award for his physical play on the day. Sophomores Aaron Hackleman and Drew Johnson as well as juniors Edvin Cortez and Michael Delaney were solid upfront all day for the Rocks offense.
The JV Rocks defense was smothering all day vs an overmatched Brebeuf team. The defensive line was especially dominant lead by junior defensive tackle and antique tractor enthusiast Eli Ross. Junior defensive back Seth Tackett came up with two huge interceptions stopping promising Brebeuf drives. Sophomore safeties Gerald George and Eric Kriskovich also provided solid coverage and run support for the Rocks defense.
On special teams McGraw came up with a huge punt block to give the Rocks offense great field position and sophomore kicker Alex Bales nailed two field goals in the first half including a huge kick at the end of the first half to give the Rocks a 12-7 lead.
The JV Rocks football team has concluded their season and would like to thank all of the fans and parents who came out to support us this year.

Offensively, the Shamrocks were led by Nate Froelich. The talented running back ripped off large chunks of yardage for the offensive, with one run in particularly serving a spark in the second half. During the run, Froelich dashed through a half dozen Brave defenders, criss-crossing the field and covering nearly 60 yards for the score. Austin "Tiny" Dollens added consistent play up front with the O-line, while Evan Manley led the wide receivers. Manley made a fantastic diving catch for one of the Shamrocks' early scores.
The Rock D was able to limit the Braves to 21 points after starting a bit slow. They ratcheted up the physicality in the second half, and were able to frustrate a dynamic Braves quarterback with pressure. Koby Hauser led the way with solid coverage in the secondary, while also bringing physicality down to the line of scrimmage when called upon. Matthew Tongate added consistent play on the defensive line. The big play of the night was early, when Hauser intercepted a Brave pass in the end zone, thwarting a Brebeuf scoring attempt.
On special teams, the Rocks were able to maintain an advantage over the Braves. Caleb Sanburn provided consistent play, with solid, reliable long snaps. Will Harrison nailed a 50-yard field goal to end the first half, and Nate Froelich recovered a late onside attempt by the Braves to help seal the victory.
Special mention should be given to Seth Feltner, Jacob Crabtree, and Seth Tackett. These Rocks made significant contributions in preparing the team for the Friday contest. They attacked each day during the week, providing the best possible look for their fellow teammates.
The Rocks will enjoy a bye next week, as they prepare start their playoff journey by travelling to Lafayette to take on the Bronchos in the first round of the sectional on Friday, October 28th.

#GameDay Brebeuf
Tonight, you Rocks will host the Brebeuf Braves at beautiful Riverview Health Stadium. The Braves come in with a 4-4 record (1-2 on the road) with their most recent victory being a stunning 24-17 victory over Cathedral. Brebeuf also faced Zionsville early last month, falling 28-33 to the Eagles.
The Braves average 268 yards per game (165 passing), and average only 18 points. Still, as their victory last week showed, they are perfectly capable of handing a highly ranked 6A team a defeat, and should most definitely not be taken lightly. The Rocks will need to limit the dynamic run/pass talent of QB Luke Iffert (#3). Iffert leads the team in rushing per game, as well as slinging the ball effectively downfield. His two favorite targets are Max Kucer (#8) and Jacob Pressler (#12), both of whom have notched 3 TDs a piece this season.
It's the last game of the regular season, so tonight is Senior Night for the Rocks. Come out and honor the seniors that have given so much to the program over the last four years. They will look to lead the Rocks to take care of business tonight, and hopefully wrap up the regular season with a win. Kickoff is scheduled for 7pm.

#RockReport JV Catch-Up
The JV report skipped a week, so here's a recap for the last two games...
The Westfield Junior Varsity football team had two very triumphant victories over the two conference opponents the last two weekends. Junior linebacker Matthew Noyes provided a safety and the game winning forced fumble to seal the game for the Rocks.
The JV Rocks played the Fishers Tigers next. This game was a complete rout by the Rocks from the first whistle of the game. #RockReport Freshmen @ Fishers
The Freshmen Rocks of Westfield traveled to Fishers on Monday, October 10th for a conference showdown against the Tigers. Although the Rocks fought very hard until the very end, they fell short of their goal, finishing the game with a score of 28-14.
Offensively, the Rocks came out with a great first drive, as running back Trevor Lickfeldt pushed the ball downfield. Quarterback Camden Simons opened up the game as well with his passing, finding Eli Patchett, Mason Cox, and Dane Wheeler for big plays. Lickfeldt capped the drive with a run into the end zone, making the score 7-0.
The Rocks defense played very strong in the first half, forcing the ball out of the hands of the Tigers. Eli Patchett made a multitude of tackles, and the rotation of linemen forced minimal gains by the Tigers.
Coming out of halftime with the score tied at 7, the Rock O took charge once again and forced the ball down field. Trevor Lickfeldt executed a big run down to the red zone that set up a Zack Allen touchdown.
Ultimately, the Tigers gained the upper hand, winning the game 28-14. The Rocks are excited to finish the season strong this year as they take on the freshman team of Hamilton Heights this Saturday at 10:00 a.m. at Riverview Health Stadium. Please come out and support these great young men!

#RockReport Fishers
Photocredit: Hamilton County Reporter |
On offense, the Shamrocks struggled early, turning the ball over several times. The leadership of Andy Sweet and consistent physical presence of Spencer Stachrya kept the offense plugging away. Sweet hooked up with Evan Manley for pair of long Shamrock scores, and the offense cleaned things up in the second half to help seal the victory.
The Rock D buckled down and did the dirty work to prevent the early turnovers from burying the Rocks. They then generated several turnovers in the second half, helping to even things out and secured the win with a 4 down stand with time dwindling in the fourth. Griffin Lickfeldt led a gritty D line effort, and Dillon Simpson tacked on consistent linebacker play. Hank Grenda provided one of the highlights early when he shot through a gap to tackle the Tiger running back in their own end zone for a safety.
The Shamrock special teams executed well in that phase of the game all night, preventing the Tigers from using their electric returners to great effect. Will Harrison kicked precise balls all night, and the coverage teams kept things bottled up. There were not a lot of fireworks on special teams, but Koby Hauser engineered a good punt return that set the offense up with excellent field position that would turn into points for the Rocks.
Special mention should be given to Ryan Mahoney, Jacob Crabtree, and Seth Tackett. These Rocks made significant contributions in preparing the team for the Friday contest. They attacked each day during the week, providing the best possible look for their fellow teammates.
The Rocks will host Brebeuf next Friday to finish out the regular season. Kickoff is scheduled for 7pm.

#GameDay Fishers
Tonight, your Rocks will travel to face their final foe on the conference slate, the Fishers Tigers. Fishers comes into the contest with a 3-4 record (0-4 HCC), having most recently earned a 27-17 victory over Cathedral. The victory snapped a four game slide for the Tigers, during which they lost to Avon (by 33), Brownsburg (4), HSE (3), and Noblesville (7).
The Shamrocks will look to build on last week's victory over Avon, and finish out with a winning conference record. The Tigers generate 227 yards per game (114 through the air), and put up 25 points average. They've had some shuffling around due to injuries, and will utilize several rushers in the backfield. Sophomore QB Jon Vore (#11) looks to be the probable starter tonight, and he'll try to hook up with two electric receivers Devonte Adams (#7) and R.J. Potts (#9). The Rocks will need to play a clean game against the well-coached Tigers, limiting the mistakes that were the undoing for the Irish last week.
We could sure use some friendly voices in the stands. Need directions? As always, we've got ya covered. Kickoff is scheduled for 7pm. See you there!

#RockReport Avon Orioles
Photocredit: Hamilton County Reporter |
On offense, the Shamrocks were led by the relentless ground attack of Nate Froelich. He couldn't have done it without the big guards of the O-line, Spencer Stachrya and Chad Reeh, pushing the birds around. Evan Manley added a couple of clutch catches and Andy Sweet sealed things at the end with fantastic leadership at the QB position.
The Rock D held one of the HCC's most athletically gifted offenses to 20 points, bending but not breaking and generating key takeaways. Homecoming King Caleb Sanburn snagged a pick early, and the Rocks generated two fumbles later in the game that were recovered by Jackson Garrett and Matthew Tongate. Justin Frey added consistent play in the secondary as the Rocks gritted their teeth and ground this one out by the slimmest of margins.
In the special teams phase of the game, the Shamrocks began the night aggressively when Alex Bales recovered his own onside kick to start the game. Otherwise, the coverage teams did a fantastic job of caging the speedy Oriole returners. In a back and forth game like this one, maintaining strong field position is an advantage that the special teams secured throughout the night.
Next week, the Rocks will travel to Fishers to take on the Tigers. Kickoff is scheduled for 7pm.

#GameDay Avon
Tonight, your Rocks come home to host the Avon Orioles. The Orioles will be looking to rain on our parade. They bring a 3-3 record (2-1 HCC) into the contest, having most recently buried Fishers by a score of 38-3. Prior to that, they've lost by 8 to Brownsburg and beaten HSE by 3 to round out the conference opponents. They have yet to face Zionsville and Noblesville.
As their outcomes against common opponents indicates, Avon presents the same sort of challenge that the Rocks have faced the last two weeks. They are a solid team with some electric skill players who the Rock D will look to contain. The Orioles average 26 points per game on 285 yards (147 through the air). Several players will run the ball, but Sampson James (#2) is leading the team with 57 ground yards per game. QB Cameron Misner (#15) will look to feed the ball to his favorite target Luke Shayotovich (#19). The two have hooked up for 6 TDs and 326 yards on the year.
The Shamrock Offense will look to provide homecoming fireworks with their balanced attack tonight, as the Rocks look to put the heart breaks of the last two weeks behind them. They could certainly use your voices cheering them on in Riverview Health Stadium tonight. No directions needed for this one. Come out and join the festivities! Kickoff is scheduled for 7pm.

#RockReport Brownsburg
The Rocks lost another heart-breaker last night, falling short by another single point in a contest against the Brownsburg Bulldogs that was decided in overtime. 29-28 was the final score, in favor of the Dogs. The game was a classic back and forth battle of two talented teams trading blows in a hard fought game. Ultimately, it was the gamble by Brownsburg to attempt a two point conversion in overtime that paid off and broke the deadlock for good. Both teams gave it their all and, unfortunately for Shamrock fans, your team did not come out on top.
To lose two games by a total of two points is frustrating, to say the least. No one hurts more the next morning than the players who have poured blood, sweat, and tears onto the field over the course of the week preparing for their one shot at Friday night glory. As coaches who love these players deeply, we find ourselves in a close second as far as the pain of these losses. We have lost two games to two good teams by a combined total of two points. There is no reason to hang our heads. So long as our family bonds remain strong, we can still achieve a great many things as a team. The sky-high potential of our young men has not diminished, it has merely been challenged.
They say that football is a game of inches, and this notion has been experienced in excruciating detail by the Rocks in the last few weeks. To be so close and come away with a loss, with an undesired outcome, is an adversity that is all too common in life. However, there are also a great many sayings about failure that can be applied. Failure is delay, not defeat. It is a temporary detour, not a dead end. Failures are finger posts on the road to achievement. Every adversity, every failure, every heartache carries with it the seed of an equal or greater benefit. It is the ability to use failure that often leads to greater success. It's failure that gives success perspective.
We are a staff and a team of great faith. Adversity happens for a reason, and we continue to have faith in this team as it strives to use heart-breaking loss as a lesson, to build upon failure in order to reach ever higher. Even in the pain of loss, it is a great day to be a Shamrock.

#GameDay Brownsburg
Tonight your Rocks will travel to Brownsburg and attempt to catch the spotless Bulldogs. They currently lead the conference with a 5-0 record (2-0 HCC), beating HCC foes Fishers and Avon by 4 and 8 points respectively.
The Rock D will have its work cut out for them as they face the top ranked QB in the nation (according to Rivals.com) in Brownsburg's Hunter Johnson (#15). The Dogs come into the contest averaging 20 points on 408 yards per game (223 through the air). Johnson, a dangerous runner in his own right, is complemented by RB Carson Gill (#5) and his 104 ground yards per game. WR Bryce Kirtz (#17) is Johnson's favorite target and has racked up 494 receiving yards (4 TDs) this year so far.
The Dogs are coming off a tight victory against Fishers which saw them produce 4 sacks and an interception. The Shamrock offense will need to protect QB Andy Sweet tonight and open holes for its dynamic backfield. Look for this to be another tight, physical game with two highly respected teams battling for supremacy.
The Rocks are hoping to spoil Brownsburg's homecoming, and could use all the friendly voices in the stands that they can get. Need directions? Don't worry, we've got you covered. (With potential end of the work week traffic on 465, the "scenic route" through Whitestown may be your best bet, which is what the buses usually take.) Kickoff is scheduled for 7pm. See you there!

#RockReport Hamilton Southeastern
The Rocks dropped a tough one on Friday night, falling to the Hamilton Southeastern Royals 21-20. The loss came on a night when the offense struggled to finish drives, settling for field goals and not coming away with points on several drives. The Rock D played strong for most of the night, but wilted at the end when they really needed a stop. Even so, the Rocks were in position to win the game with a late field goal, but the clocked ran out before they were able to call a timeout and the game was ruled over.
The Rocks will look to rebound next week when the travel to Brownsburg High School to take on the red hot Bulldogs. The dogs are currently leading the conference, so if the Rocks can earn a victory, they will be back tied for the lead in the conference race. Kickoff is scheduled for 7pm.

#GameDay Hamilton Southeastern Royals
Get ready for a battle royale tonight as Hamilton Southeastern barges into Riverview Health Stadium, looking to disrupt the Rocks spotless 4-0 record. The Rocks will be looking to achieve the exceedingly rare 5-0 start to the high school season. This is the halfway mark of the regular season, so both conference foes will be looking to take some momentum into the second half of the regular season.
The Royals come in with a 3-1 record, having lost a close one to fellow HCC member Avon. They average 30.5 points per game on 415 yards (264 in the air). Jackson Sweeney (#20) is their leading rusher and point gatherer, notching an average of 7.5 points per game on 105 yards. QB Adam Mullett will look to run business up front, but party in the air with the potent Royal passing attack.
The Rocks will look to rely on a defense that has been fantastic at limiting opponent points, stalemating the run and frustrating the air attack throughout the night. They will want to control both the tempo and physicality to allow the offense to Pound the Rock on the Royals. This is shaping up to be another classic brawl of Hoosier Crossroads Conference foes looking to gain the leg up in the conference race. Expect the score to be close all the way to the end.
No map needed tonight. We hope to see you at the Home of the Shamrocks. Kickoff is scheduled for 7PM.

#RockReport Freshmen @ Noblesville
Rivalry – a word that conjures up the magic of football season to the fans of our wonderful sport. Rivalries embody all that is good in the game of football – the energy, intensity, pride, and pageantry come alive during a school’s rivalry week. The freshman Rocks of Westfield High School got a taste of their biggest rivalry on September 12, 2016, as they traveled east down the old Midland Rail Line to Hare Chevrolet Field – the confines of the Noblesville Millers.
Coming fresh off a stinging defeat to other archrival Zionsville, the Rocks arrived focused and prepared for a battle against Noblesville. Westfield received the ball first, and the Rocks took the field with quarterback Hunter Will getting his first start of the season. The Westfield ground game took off immediately, with the offensive line paving the way for runs by running backs Eli Patchett and Trevor Lickfeldt. The quarterback Will also advanced the ball with a big completion to Patchett, forcing the ball into Miller territory.
A fumble late in the drive turned the ball over to the Millers, and the Westfield defense got its first shot at the action. Linebacker Gabe Henderson made it very apparent that the Miller road to the end zone would not be easy, as he found himself involved on nearly every tackle. The defense consistently swarmed the football, but a Noblesville touchdown put the Millers up 6-0. The point after attempt was no good.
The exchange of the first drives took the entire first quarter of play, and in the second quarter, the Rocks began to make their presence felt on the scoreboard. In one single big play, the Rocks offensive line, led by player of the game Mark McLaurin, took on the stacked defense of Noblesville and opened up a hole for running back Trevor Lickfeldt to explode through for a 60 yard touchdown. Riddle’s point after was good, leaving the score at 7-6 in favor of the Rocks.
Both teams then exchanged quick drives with one another – the Millers with a turnover on 4 downs, and the Rocks with a 3 play drive followed by a great punt by special teams player of the game Camden Simons. Late in the second quarter, with Noblesville on its third offensive drive, Dane Wheeler stepped up with his very own big play for the defense, intercepting a Noblesville pass attempt and getting possession of the ball back for Westfield.
After another offensive punt, the defense went back to work, and cornerback Zach Allen, this week’s defensive player of the game came to life, intercepting a Noblesville pass and giving the Rock offense the ball in Noblesville territory with less than a minute to go in the half. The offense fired on all pistons, with passing completions from Simons to Patchett and thunderous Lickfeldt runs behind the offensive line. Lickfeldt finished the drive sprinting into the end zone uncontested. Jacob Riddle, wearing one of his many hats for special teams made the point after attempt, increasing the Rocks’ lead to a score of 14-6.
The Millers refused to go down without a great fight, and as the 3rd quarter began, the Miller offense went to work, driving and scoring to tighten the score up. The extra point attempt was no good, and the count was 14-12.
The Rocks knew that they had to answer the call in order to win the game and the offense came onto the field with this sense of urgency. Trevor Lickfeldt and Offensive Mr. Consistency Simons each had runs of 10+ yards that set up a great pass from Simons to Patchett, getting the Rocks down to the Miller 5 yard line. Patchett finished off the drive with a touchdown run of his own. The point after attempt was good, and the Rocks’ lead jumped to 21-12.
As the game wound down, Noblesville went more and more to their passing game to create big plays. Zach Allen saw this change and timed up what may be the interception of the year as he snatched the ball from the clutches of the diving Noblesville receiver.
On the Rocks’ final scoring drive, the dual-headed monster of Patchett and Lickfeldt, following the titanic offensive line, each had big rushes toward the end zone. Lickfeldt scored the TD, and Riddle’s PAT was good, giving the Rocks 28 over the Millers’ 12.
After a final Miller touchdown, the Rocks were able to take the field in victory formation. The young men from Westfield were certainly excited to come out on the winning end of such a great rivalry, but they were not content with everything. The freshmen of Westfield know that the meat of the HCC season awaits them, and they are ready to keep improving and to attack the rest of the schedule with an energy never before seen by man.
Please come support your freshman Rocks this Monday, September 19th, at Riverview Health Stadium in beautiful Westfield, where the young men will take on the Royals of Hamilton Southeastern High School.

#RockReport Noblesville

On offense, the Rocks were led by the dominant Offensive Line. The big boys up front opened holes that the steady legs of Jonathan Swidan exploited consistently throughout the night. Nate Froelich, the other head of Westfield's two-pronged running attack, provided the big play of the night with a 70 yard scamper down the sideline for a key TD.
The Rock D stymied a physical Miller offense, blanking them in the second half and allowing only 7 total points. They were led by strong play from Byron Hubbard and Koby Hauser. Caleb Sanburn tacked on consistent coverage in the back end. The big play of the night came when the Rocks thwarted an early Miller scoring opportunity deep in their own territory. Lucas Schultz and Koby Hauser forced a fumble on a completed pass up the middle, and Hank Grenda provided the recovery.
Shamrock Special Teams again secured the advantage in the game's kicking phase. Will Harrison punted the cover off the ball several times, flipping the field on the Millers during the close game. Koby Hauser added consistent punt fielding for the Rocks, while the big play for the night was again provided by Nolan Rodgers. Rodgers called on his incredible speed to streak through the Miller kickoff return team, bouncing off a blocker before halting the returner at the Miller 15 yard line.
Special mention should be given to Chad Welch, Mike Delaney, and Nathan Nguyen. These Rocks made significant contributions in preparing the team for the Friday contest. They attacked each day during the week, providing the best possible look for their fellow teammates.
The Rocks will host the Hamilton Southeaster Royals this coming Friday. Kickoff is scheduled for 7pm.
(Editor's note: Indy Sports Daily has a ton more of fantastic photos from this contest and others on their site. I highly encourage anyone looking for action photos of the Rocks to check it out!)

#GameDay noblesville millers
Tonight is a big one. Your Rocks will travel 7.8 miles down 32 to take on their closest rival, the Millers, for the Midland Rail Rivalry Trophy. Since 2004, this rivalry has bounced back and forth, with the all time varsity record knotted at 7-7.
Noblesville comes into the game fresh off a last second win over Fishers, their first win of the season. They are sitting at 1-2 but, perhaps more importantly, 1-0 in the conference. They're only averaging 17 points a game, but on 325 yards (173 on the ground). Their lead rusher is also their lead passer in QB Ryan Barnes (#12).
It seems like every time the Rocks and Millers face off, points and yards are hard to come by. These have traditionally been old-school, slog-it-out type games. Expect no different tonight. Both teams will look to establish the run, create turnovers, and beat the opponent up physically.
We could certainly use friendly voices in what is likely to be one of the more unfriendly confines we'll visit this season. The field can be a little tricky to find, as it is down the road a little from the high school, but we've got you covered. Kickoff is scheduled for 7pm. See you there!

#RockReport JV @ Zionsville
The Westfield Junior Varsity football team was once again unable to pull out the victory against the Eagles of Zionsville Community High School. They lost 32-40 to a well-coached Z.C.H.S. JV team.
The JV Rocks defense started the game with a very soft and underwhelming response to the physical play of the Eagles. The defense allowed scores on the first two drives and the Eagles added another on special teams leading to a quick 21-0 lead. The Rocks defense was able to overcome the malaise of the morning and put forth a much more stern effort for the rest of the game. Sophomore Cam Frye played hard at linebacker for the Rocks and caused a fumble. Sophomore Owen McGraw played fast and physical on special teams and defense making several plays on deep passes and multiple tackles.
The JV Rocks offense started the game with the same gusto (or lack thereof) the defense showed in their first quarter appearance. The offensive output was sparked by a play on special teams. Junior Matthew Meyer started the scoring for the Rocks with a 75 yard kick-off return for a touchdown, putting the Rocks on the board for the first time. The Rocks had a chance to score at the half to put them within a touchdown but came up a yard short before time ran out. Sophomore Dorian Blaze Henson provided a spark for the Rocks on offense leading the Rocks on a scoring drive and Junior quarterback Cameron Nance threw a ball up to Meyer for a 50 yard score. Junior Tyler Canada got creative running his own route but found his way to the end zone and a touchdown. On the last drive of the day, the Rocks were within striking distance of tying the game, but came up just short as their last pass fell to the ground.
The JV Rocks football team will look to bounce back after their first losing streak in years and will play at home vs noblesville High School on Saturday September 10th at 10 a.m.

#RockReport Zionsville Eagles
Rocks Varsity Football increased their record to 3-0, earning a victory over HCC rival Zionsville. In doing so, they gave the Eagles their first loss on the season and secured the Shining Star trophy for the fourth straight year. Additionally, the Rocks are now 1-0 in conference play.
On offense, the Rocks were led by Andy Sweet's dual threat attack. Collin Caldwell and Hayden Rodgers added consistent play from the tight end position, while the big highlight of the night was Sweet's long TD pass to Evan Manley.
The Rock D continued to be stingy with the points, allowing only 8 to a previously high scoring offense. They were led by the relentless interior presence of Hank Grenda, supported by the consistent play of Austin Ward and Caleb Sanburn. The Rocks secured several key turnovers, but one in particular stood out when reserves refused to give up on a long Zionsville pass, with Davis Giffin and Seth Feltner punching out the ball to be recovered by Matthew Noyes.
Shamrock Special Teams secured the advantage in the game's kicking phase. The kickoff team stood out all night, with 8 kickoffs resulting in 7 touchbacks and an Eagle average starting position of their own 21 yard line. Caleb Sanburn tacked on consistent play and the highlight of the night came from Nolan Rodgers' dash down the field to lay a vicious hit and create a fumble.
Special mention should be given to Michael Delaney, Pat Beam, and David Mendoza. These Rocks made significant contributions in preparing the team for the Friday contest. They attacked each day during the week, providing the best possible look for their fellow teammates.

#GameDay Zionsville Eagles
The eagles fly into town tonight, hoping to reclaim the Shining Star rivalry trophy. Both teams come into tonight's game with spotless 2-0 records. Only one will remain without a loss come Saturday.
Zionsville brings a high powered offense, averaging 48 points and around 600 yards per game. 440 of those yards are in the air, with the rest on the ground, so expect the eagles to throw it tonight. The Rock D will have their work cut out for them limiting starting QB Blake Levy (#6) through the air, and top rusher Brenden Mikesell (#20). The eagles narrowly escaped last week with a last second TD over Lebanon, so look for them to try to come out strong, early in this one.
We'll be celebrating 20 years of Rocks tonight, so come out for the festive atmosphere and, as always, to cheer on your 2016 Rocks. Kickoff is scheduled for 7pm. See you there!

#RockReport Freshmen vs Southport
On Saturday, August 27th, the Freshman Rocks of Westfield took the field against their opponents hailing from the Southside of Indianapolis – the Southport Cardinals. The young Rocks displayed both mental and physical fortitude against their opponents and the elements alike, coming away with a resounding 27-14 victory in the midst of a classic Midwest rain squall.
The Rocks kicked away to start the game, giving the multi-faceted Southport attack the ball first. The Cardinals made a push into the red zone, but Jacob Netral (DE), Eli Patchett (LB), Levi Kaster (LB), and company put an end to that on the big 3rd down play, forcing a Southport field goal attempt that was blocked. Camden Simons and the Rock offense came out for a drive of their own and quickly went to work mounting a ground attack, the offensive line bulldozing the Southport front and the cavalcade of running backs finding running room and pushing the ball forward. After great runs by Trevor Lickfeldt, Eli Patchett, and the quarterback Simons, Zack Allen found his way into the end zone on a 13 yard rush from the line of scrimmage.
The defense of the Rocks went back to work the following drive and made the Southport journey to the end zone a long and difficult one. Defensive player of the game Luke Honeycut (DT) was consistently on the Cardinal side of the line of scrimmage all day, making big stops against both the running and passing attacks.
After a Southport TD and extra point knotting the score up at 7, and a kickoff returned to the 40 by Honeycut, the offense stormed the field with their response. The six blocks of granite – McLaurin, Honeycut, Parker, Netral, Krieg, and Kaster – paved the way for long runs by Lickfeldt and Simons, capping off the drive with a 10 yard rush by Patchett into the end zone.
Alex Juarez and Levi Kaster combined for a big 4th down stop against the Cardinals on the subsequent Southport drive, but the offense could not capitalize, instead punting and giving the defense another opportunity to return the ball into Westfield hands. The defense did not disappoint, as they sniffed out a Southport jet sweep, allowing the offense to take over from the 50 yard line with barely a minute to go in the half.
One minute proved to be more than enough time, as the rushing attack of the Rocks made swift work. Quarterback Cam Simons called his own number for a 34 yard run down into Southport territory, and then Trevor Lickfeldt penetrated into the defense, powering his way into the end zone for a big 15 yard score before half. The PAT by Riddle was good, and the Rocks went up 21-7.
As the Rocks kicked off the third quarter, special teams player of the game Gabe Henderson and Mr. Consistency Grant Joyce stormed forward on kickoff return. The Rocks knew that they controlled their own destiny, and the offense wanted to ensure that this destiny would be a great one. After another Honeycut return, the Rock offense took the ball from their own 45 yard line, and this time, the Rocks called upon the passing skills of Simons to lead them into the end zone. Simons found wide receiver Mason Cox running free and delivered the ball into his waiting hands for another Rocks score. The PAT did not go through the uprights, and the score stood at 27-7.
After another fourth down stop against the Cardinals by Luke Honeycut, the Rock offense took charge once again, finding tight end Levi Kaster for a big gain up the middle. The drive fell short of the end zone, though, and the Cardinals took back over, forced back away from the end zone yet again by the Westfield defensive eleven.
Upon the next possession, quarter back Hunter Will entered the game and led the offense, calling his own number for big runs up the middle. As the game wound down, the fighting Cardinals of Southport found the end zone one last time in their great effort to win the game. The Rocks were unfazed, however, and kept the ball away from the Cardinals as the clock wound down.
This team has proved its mettle in both of its games, and now it will take on a tough test from Highway 32 West – the Zionsville Eagles. The young Rocks are ready to take part in this classic rivalry. They will be at home on Labor Day, September 5th. Ladies and gentlemen, enjoy this great American holiday by coming out to support these fine young men at 6:00 p.m. at Riverview Health Stadium. Go Rocks!
#RockReport JV @ Southport
The Westfield Junior Varsity football team was unable to overcome mistakes and miscues on both offense and defense and suffered their first defeat of the season. They lost 13-22 to an explosive Southport JV team.
The JV Rocks offense started the game with an impressive methodical and well executed drive down the field. Junior quarterback Cameron Nance completed a long 3rd down pass to sophomore wide receiver Pat Beam. The drive was capped off with a quick pass to sophomore running back Nathan V. Nguyen who ran thru several Southport defenders on his way to the end zone. The Rocks were able to move the ball the rest of the game, but penalties stalled drives and resulted in two field goals by sophomore kicker Alex Bales. Junior Matthew Meyer ran the opening kick-off return for the Rocks back for a touchdown, unfortunately there was a penalty on the play and Meyers very first kick-off return was not to be.
The Rocks defense started the game strong with a big goal line stand which resulted in a touch down by the Rocks offense. The Cardinals were able to move the ball throughout the game, but the Rocks were able to eventually shut down Southport most of the day until the end of the game. The Rocks were unable to create a turn over which is usually their forte.
The JV Rocks football team will look to bounce back after this disappointing loss and will play at Zionsville Community High School on Saturday September 3rd at 10 a.m.

#RockReport Southport Cardinals
Rocks Varsity Football flew their record to 2-0, securing a late night victory over the Southport Cardinals, 27-0.
On offense, the Rocks were led by Nate Froelich's relentless ground attack. Austin Dollens added consistent blocking up front, and Andy Sweet connected with Evan Manley on a long, flea-flicker pass to provide one of the night's highlights.
The Rock D pitched a shutout for the first time this decade, blanking a solid Southport offense. Koby Hauser anchored the D, along with consistent play from Griffin Lickfeldt and Byron Hubbard. Jackson Garrett added a highlight when he intercepted the ball deep in Shamrock territory to stop one of the Cardinals' best drives of the night.
Shamrock Special Teams kept things consistent in the third phase of the game, playing solid across the board. Nolan Rodgers headlined the crew, with the Punt Block team adding a key tackle on a fourth down fake by the Cardinals.
Special mention should be given to Chad Welch, Eric Kiskovich, Devin McGinnis, Jacob Crabtree, and Michael Delany. These Rocks made significant contributions in preparing the team for the Friday contest. They attacked each day during the week, providing the best possible look for their fellow teammates.
The Rocks will host the Zionsville Eagles this coming Friday. Kickoff is scheduled for 7pm.

#RockReport Freshmen vs Raiders
After making the trek to West Central Indiana, the Freshman Rocks of Westfield opened their season with a gutsy, hard fought victory, 21-14 over the Raiders of William Henry Harrison High School.
After exchanging drives throughout the first quarter, the Raiders put up the first points of the contest on a two yard touchdown scamper. The Rocks stayed tough, however, as the kick attempt, pressured by defensive tackle Luke Honeycut, erred away from the uprights, leaving the score at 6-0.
With a strong resolve, the Rocks offensive line consisting of Mark McLaurin, Ross Krieg, Griffin Burge, Jacob Netral, and Luke Honeycut put on their hard hats and went to work, driving the ball 65 yards on ten consecutive run plays allowing for an Eli Patchett touchdown run. The point after attempt was converted by a Jacob Riddle kick, and the Rocks went up 7-6.
The Raiders, defending their home turf, would not back away after this score, and they responded with their own long drive followed by a two point conversion, forcing the young Rocks to go into the locker room down 14-7.
The second half brought a change to the attitude of the freshman Rocks, as well as a change to the outcome of the game. After forcing a three and out of the Raider offense, the Rocks went to work and retained possession of the football for the entire third quarter. Guided by quarterback Camden Simons, the Rock O marched down the field on a 16 play drive filled with a variety of attacks on the ground and through the air. The offensive line cemented its role as the Mr. Consistency award winners of the game with great run-blocking coupled with great pass protection. Simons found offensive player of the game Eli Patchett on the drive’s final play, connecting with the speedy player for a 27 yard touchdown. Riddle’s PAT was good, and the Rocks tied the game 14-14.
The defense knew it had to have a great fourth quarter for the Rocks to clinch the game, and it certainly answered the call. Defensive linemen Ross Krieg and Alex Juarez found their way across the line of scrimmage, wreaking havoc in the Raider backfield and pressuring the Raider quarterback into an interception by LaSean Tut, giving control of the ball back to the Rocks of Westfield.
The go-ahead drive mounted with rushes both inside and out by Zack Allen, the elusive tailback. The decisive big play that got the Rocks into scoring position was a 22 yard completion through the air from Simons to receiver Luke Jankowski. Simons called his own number on the goal line for a QB sneak to put the Rocks up, 20-14. Special Teams Player of the game Jacob Riddle went 3 for 3 on his PAT’s after getting great snaps all game from Mr. Consistency Alan White, capping the score at 21-14.
Always dangerous, the Raiders of William Henry Harrison took the field in one last effort to sway the tide in their favor. The Rock defense would not allow it, as safety Shannon Bola and linebacker Aidan White combined for a forced fumble with a Rock recovery sealing the game in favor of the Westfield frosh.
The Rocks will look to continue their winning ways as they go into a contest against their opponent representing the Southside of Indy – the Southport Cardinals (0-1). Fans, support your Westfield Shamrocks this Saturday, August 27th, at 10:00 a.m.

#GameDay Harrison Raiders
Tonight, across the state of Indiana, cleats will smack into oblong leather balls at approximately 7pm. If you listen closely, you'll be able to hear it: the official start of the high school football season. And if you're a Rocks fan, your team will be traveling to Lafayette to take on the William Henry Harrison Raiders.
First game is a fresh slate, so I don't have any Raider stats for you. They look to have a solid running game, and will most likely try to establish the run game early. The Rock D will have to be stingy with running yards, put the Raiders in third and long situations, and execute to get off of the field. The offense will need to build on last week's strong showing against Ben Davis. Look for the one, two attack of ground pressure combined with explosive passing.
See you there!
Need directions to the field? We've got you covered:
