#RockReport Avon Orioles

Last night the Rocks came home to Riverview Health Stadium and danced their way to the right side of a 1 point margin, defeating the Avon Orioles 21-20. The victory lifts their record to 5-2 (3-2 HCC) and sets up nicely for a final conference showdown against Fishers next week.

On offense, the Shamrocks were led by the relentless ground attack of Nate Froelich. He couldn't have done it without the big guards of the O-line, Spencer Stachrya and Chad Reeh, pushing the birds around. Evan Manley added a couple of clutch catches and Andy Sweet sealed things at the end with fantastic leadership at the QB position.

The Rock D held one of the HCC's most athletically gifted offenses to 20 points, bending but not breaking and generating key takeaways. Homecoming King Caleb Sanburn snagged a pick early, and the Rocks generated two fumbles later in the game that were recovered by Jackson Garrett and Matthew Tongate. Justin Frey added consistent play in the secondary as the Rocks gritted their teeth and ground this one out by the slimmest of margins.

In the special teams phase of the game, the Shamrocks began the night aggressively when Alex Bales recovered his own onside kick to start the game. Otherwise, the coverage teams did a fantastic job of caging the speedy Oriole returners. In a back and forth game like this one, maintaining strong field position is an advantage that the special teams secured throughout the night.

Next week, the Rocks will travel to Fishers to take on the Tigers. Kickoff is scheduled for 7pm.

  1. It was Alex Bales #15 that recovered his own onside kick to start the game.
