#RockReport - JV and Freshmen

JV

The Junior Varsity Westfield Football team traveled to Lafayette on Saturday 10/05/13 and played a hard fought game versus the Maverick Bulls of McCutcheon High School. The JV Rocks Football team was victorious with a score of 28-0.

The JV offense started fast with a two-play drive culminating in a 60 yard touchdown pass from Sophomore Ryan Pepiot to fellow Sophomore Will McCool. A series of penalties on ensuing drives resulted in this being the only score for the Rocks offense in the first half. The second half was mistake free football. Because of this focus, the offense was able to score on long drives both resulting in touchdown runs by Ryan Pepiot. Jordan Long and Alex Salinas (a.k.a. El Guapo) set the tone for the offensive line blocking well and leading to those touchdowns in the second half.

The JV football defense played an outstanding game. Russel Reynolds and Jacob Pence shored up the middle of the Rocks JV defensive line making many plays in the McCutcheon Backfield. The Rocks Defense did not allow the Mavericks in the red zone once during the game, forcing their offense to punt or turn the ball over. One turnover came late in the game from “Lockdown” Luke Lammers. The Mavericks Quarterback threw a pass towards his sideline; Luke broke on the ball, intercepted it, and broke tackles and made people miss as he returned the interception 50 yards for the final Shamrock touchdown.

The Rocks JV Football Team will play next at Noblesville on Saturday October 12th at 10:00 am.

Freshmen

The Freshmen Football team secured a winning season on Monday night beating McCutcheon 28-17. The freshmen rocks came out from the first whistle ready to play. The defense came out and got a turnover on McCutcheon’s first possession. Joe Foester recovered a fumble that was forced by a gang of freshmen rocks. Then the offense came out and marched down the field. But found themselves in a fourth and 5 situation but were calm and Andy Sweet through a fade to Josue Gonzalez in the back of the end zone for a quick 6-0 lead. Miles Clinkenbeard then added the extra point. After a McCutcheon touchdown they tried to pooch kick it over the heads of the front line but Justin Frey caught it and took it down to the 5 yard line. Jared Bayha came in and behind an offensive line that moved the entire defense he scored on a great run over the right side. Miles made the extra point pushing the lead to 14-6. McCutcheon scored again pushing the score to 14-12. The offense took over with 1:40 left in the half and scored in 40 seconds on a pass from Andy Sweet to Tanner Nichols down the sideline. The 28 yard pass increased the lead to 20-12 at half time.

The offense started off the second half with the ball and just like they have so many times this year they drove down the field with a long five and a half minute drive. Caleb Sanburn scored to top off the long drive. Making the score 27-12. The defense came in and continued to shut down their offense. The defense was lead by Justin Frey and Austin Dollens. Josh Tuffnell made several tackles for loss and a few big hits on the sidelines. The defense gave up a late touchdown that did not matter making the score 27-18. McCutcheon tried an onside kick but Justin Frey said "no soup for you" and caught the ball. TJ Trzil came in and ran for a first down to finish the game off.

The freshmen team will be at home against Noblesville next Monday, October 14th at 6 PM.
