#RockReport Noblesville

On Friday, your Rocks earned a 30-26 victory over the visiting Noblesville Millers retaining the Midland Rail rivalry trophy. It took nearly every second of the 4 quarters, as the Rocks were able to take the lead for good with only 19 seconds remaining to play. With the victory, Westfield improves to 4-0.

Offensively, the Shamrocks were led by the gutsy play of WR Kyle Pepiot. Drew Johnson anchored a consistent offensive line that proved key in opening running lanes. The most important of these lanes was created with 0:19 showing on the clock and the ball in RB Nate Froelich's hands. Froelich blasted through the hole to snatch the lead on a TD run.

The Rock D really struggled in this game, yielding early points to a team that hadn't been scoring particularly well so far this season. Still, give the Millers credit, as they obviously brought their "A" game, pushing the Rocks to the brink. The Rock D was able to seal the game at the end, however, when Owen McGraw intercepted a long pass in the waning seconds of the game.

Shamrock Special Teams came out hot to start the game, generating a takeaway on the opening kickoff when Kyle Pepiot forced a fumble that was recovered by K Alex Bales. They also tacked on a field goal and were led by the outstanding play of Koby Hauser. Cooper Boehm added consistent high energy when he was in the game as the Special Teams were able to gain any edge in this phase of the game.

Special mention should be given to Calvin Grenda, Griffin Burge, and Griffin Pope. These Rocks made significant contributions in preparing the team for the Friday contest. They made sure to RISE to the occasion during the week, providing the best possible look for their fellow teammates.

Next Friday, you Rocks will travel to Hamilton Southeastern High School to face the Royals. Kickoff is scheduled for 7pm.

  1. I’m surprised you didn’t mention Nance, your QB, who in my opinion was terrific throughout the game, made some big plays and remained composed while managing the offense in a very close game. The way Nance commanded that final winning drive was very impressive with only 1:40 remining. No doubt though, Froelich is awesome and Hauser is a big hitter for your defense. Anyway, the Shamrocks are a very good team and I wish you luck the rest of the season.

  2. Hey thanks for the comment! The Midland rivalry games have been great games the last handful of years, haven't they? Close, hard-fought football on both sides!

Cam Nance absolutely had a good game and made some big plays for us. For these write ups, the coaches meet on Saturday morning after reviewing Friday's game film and try to pick one player of the game, one "Mr. Consistency," and one big play. Oftentimes it is absolutely difficult to narrow it down to just one of each in that particular phase of the game. (And there are also times when we struggle to find someone deserving, like with our defense this week.) So, simply, in the opinion of the coaches, Nate beat Cam out for the honor this week. So it definitely wasn't intended as a slight to any of the many positive team contributions; it's just how we do things. (We also try to spread the love out a little... if you're keeping a tally like we have in our team room. Cam won the honor when we faced Southport in week 2, though this makes two weeks in a row for Nate.)

Thanks again for the comment and best of luck the rest of the season!
