Varsity Football travelled to face the Zionsville Eagles last Friday, losing 18-35.
Offensively, the Shamrocks just couldn’t seem to put things together. They put a decent amount of yardage up, but had some trouble punching it into the end zone. The big play on the night came from Kory Kostecka, catching a short pass on the sideline and then breaking several tackles for the score.
The Rock D started strong but failed to finish. Mitch Turley had a great game with a pair of interceptions. Stephen Curry forced a fumble that was scooped by Logan Floor. And Adam Horkay anchored the solid play at cornerback for a unit that limited the Eagle passing attack.
Mitch Turley led the way as well on several Special Teams. The kickoff team opened a nice lane that returner Emmanuel Calhoun took advantage of, proving the Rocks with a great starting position. The punt team also outdid the opposing Eagle unit, doing their best to keep the field position battle in the Rocks’ favor.
Special mention should be given to Jacob Eccles, Nick Alatza, and Cam Harrison. These Rocks made significant contributions in preparing the team for the Friday contest. They focused on the finish every day in practice, providing the best possible look for their fellow teammates.
The Rocks come home this Friday, looking to celebrate the weekend with a victory over Hamilton Southeastern. Kickoff is at 7pm.
