Spring Community Service Project

In addition to our Build the Rock update, I have another post today. This one an announcement about an opportunity to serve the community. Shamrocks will be working with Habitat for Humanity, and likely be doing the foundation and early stages of building a house. This is a great chance for some team building and to give back.

The opportunity will be on Saturday, May 4th from 9AM to 4PM. Any football player over the age of 16 (sorry for the age restriction!) is encouraged to come and donate what time they can! We will be working at 350 S. Washington Avenue in Cicero, IN. Slap that into your friendly neighborhood GPS and come on out!

In order to help us, we need players to officially sign up through Habitat's Hamilton County Website. In the top bar select "get involved." Scroll down and click "volunteer now." Find the date and click on "Westfield Football." Finally, click on "sign in." Should take all of five minutes. If you have problems, let one of the coaches know (or email us!).

Hope to see you there!

Coach Sattison is in the Field

Coach Sattison is our eyewitness reporter for Build the Rock progress. I've convinced him to send me bootleg pictures and updates as construction progresses. He'll be using Twitter a lot, but I'll try to snag some for re-posting here (and to our Facebook page). Here's coach...

Here was a snapshot of the construction I took yesterday. It's really hard to focus on school with all of this going on right outside my window! It looks like they are nearly done surveying and have brought in some pipes to start actually digging into the ground to start the foundation. I couldn't help but think how perfect this timing is. We have finally started some skill development outside our normal weight training, so as a team we are laying the foundation for our upcoming football season as well! I know they say "a watched pot never boils," but I will try to blog updates as often as possible! For a daily picture update, follow me or our football account on twitter: @coach_sattison and/or @ShamrockFB, and as always, its a great day to be a Shamrock!

Academic Top Ten: Spring Break Edition

As a Spring Break treat, we've looked into grades!

I know, you're all excited, reading this on your mobile devices down in Florida with the rest of Indiana on the beach. Did you caravan down there? I remember on one of my own breaks not too long ago, we stopped at a random Steak and Shake just outside of Atlanta. It was maybe 2AM (we were driving through). Walked in, and the entire place was filled with the same people we'd hang out with on a random Saturday night! Many of the end destinations were different (PCB, Daytona, etc), but apparently we were all making the Atlanta Steak and Shake a hot spot for a night. And who doesn't have stories about Atlanta traffic, am I right? (Gotta hit it at night!)

Ah, the joys of being a Hoosier on Spring Break.

Anyway, I promised a top ten before I got all reminiscent on you. While you're out enjoying your sand and sun, remember that grades are still very important to us Shamrocks. Enjoy your break, but be ready to work when you get back. We're building something special here!

In a very particular order, here are the top ten GPA-earners in our family:
  1. Mitch Turley
  2. Johnny Crawford
  3. Matt Kinney
  4. Ben Huntley
  5. Madi Turley
  6. Will McCool
  7. Sam Trompen
  8. Renzo Alvarez
  9. Turner Edwards
  10. Paul Waite
Great job, Rocks! I'm sure all ten of you are hitting the books hard right now instead of getting a tan... right?

Build the Rock Campaign Update

I received an email from Athletic Director Bill Davis today, providing an update on the Build the Rock Campaign. Apparently, things are progressing. Three major corporate donors have been secured. The visitors' locker room is already planned to be built by fall of this year!

Bricks are still available! Please visit the official school website if you are interested in making a donation and helping to build a new community stadium (donation forms are at the bottom, along with the update, and some pretty renderings of the potential stadium). This is a once in a generation opportunity, and you could have your name on it!

What a great day to be a Shamrock!

New Addition To The Family

Coach Gilbert passed along this announcement to me this week...

I am excited to announce that we have hired another great coach to our staff. Isaac Sturgis will join us from Avon H.S. beginning this summer. Coach Sturgis has also had stops as the Defensive Coordinator at Lebanon and Western Boone, and has served as a position coach for Columbus North. I have known Coach Sturgis for years. He is a high energy, enthusiastic coach who demands the best out of his players while maintaining great relationships with his guys. Coach Sturgis will take over as our inside linebacker coach and defensive coordinator. We can't wait to see the Hard Hat D emulate his aggressive, fundamental style!

Welcome aboard Coach Sturgis! And Go Rocks!
