The Rocks offense started the game with chunk plays speeding down the field and scoring relentlessly against an overwhelmed Flash defense. The player of the game was sophomore quarterback Camden Simons who passed for 3 touchdowns, ran for one, and assisted on another. Sophomores Dane Wheeler and Reid Stewart were the recipients of Simons’s touchdown tosses. Stewart also earned the consistency award by playing both tight end and offensive tackle for a depleted front five for the Rocks offense. The big play for the Rocks came half way through the 3rd quarter on the first play of the half for the Rocks. Simons threw a backwards pass to sophomore receiver Mason Cox who set up and chucked the ball down field to sophomore Luke Jankowski for a 65+ yard touchdown which demoralized the Flashes.
The Rocks defense faced a formidable running attack but were more than up for the challenge. The Rocks front 7 started the game with multiple three and out possessions, the second of which resulted in a botched snap on a Flashes punt attempt setting up the Rocks offense with a short field. Junior linebacker Zach Collins and junior linemen Calvin Grenda earned player of the game and Mr. Consistency awards respectively for the defense. The outcome of the game was sealed when junior safety Griffin Pope swooped in and intercepted a desperate attempt by the Flashes to salvage some semblance of offensive explosiveness in the game.
The JV Rocks football team has had a great season and represent a bright future for the Rocks. The team was 9-0 on the year and HCC JV champions. Congratulations Rocks!!
